Officers respond to medical emergency at W Maple St YMCA

February 18, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Friday February 17, 2017, at about 8:04 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to 1001 W Maple Street, the YMCA, to the report of an unconscious person. The first arriving officer arrived within 2 minutes of the initial dispatch and found an unresponsive female. The female was being attended to by YMCA staff including a nurse and lifeguard, who were rendering CPR.

YMCA staff and Officers were joined a short time later by LIFE paramedics and an MSU1 physician. The team’s life-saving efforts were rewarded, after some 40 minutes of continuous CPR, when the female regained a pulse. The female was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment but further information is unknown.

The investigation showed that the female suffered an unknown medical emergency while swimming. The female is a 60 year old resident of Parchment. The circumstances are not considered suspicious.

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation or any other criminal activity is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994, Silent Observer at 343-2100, or www.KalamazooSilentObserver.com.
