Public Safety Prepares for First Snowfall

December 6, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

As the first snow storm of this winter season approaches West Michigan, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety would like to provide a couple of reminders:

  • Icy and snowy road conditions can be very dangerous and require slower speeds and increased distance between vehicles, regardless if your vehicle is equipped with four wheel drive.
  • Cautionary driving is especially important during the first snow of the winter season, as motorists are comfortable with driving on favorable road conditions. As a result, police departments across West Michigan respond to an increased number of vehicle accidents during this transition period.

To encourage safe and cautious driving, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety will provide increased presence and enforcement on freeways within the City of Kalamazoo this afternoon and early evening.
