Citizen robbed at gunpoint on W Vine St

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday February 27, 2017, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Kalamazoo Pubic Safety Officers were dispatched to a report of a subject being robbed in the 300 block of W. Vine. The victim stated an unknown male walked up behind him and robbed him at gunpoint. The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone and keys and fled the area on foot. Officers conducted a thorough search for the suspect, including the use of a police K9; however, no suspect was located.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 6’3-6’4 in his late 20s, to early 30s. He was believed to be wearing a black jacket with a black hooded sweatshirt, and dark colored pants. He was armed with an unknown style handgun. The suspect is still at large as of this time.

Kalamazoo Public Safety is still investigating this incident, checking surveillance footage in the area. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.

Driver flees on foot after an accident injuring two people

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 29, 2016, officers from Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the area of W Vine and S Rose regarding a personal injury accident. Upon arrival, officers located two females that had been injured in the accident. The accident investigation showed that the suspect vehicle ran a red light and struck the driver’s side of their vehicle. Witnesses indicated the suspect / at-fault driver fled on foot. A K-9 track was conducted that lead to the discovery of several of the suspect’s articles of clothing and suspected drugs that had been discarded by the fleeing suspect. However, the suspect was not located.

The suspect has been identified as a 36 year old male Kalamazoo resident who is already wanted on two outstanding warrants. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment, their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Armed robbery reported in 600 block of W Vine St

On July 09, 2016, at about 0227, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of W. Vine St. regarding a subject lying on the ground with a head injury. The victim reported being robbed by an unknown male who was armed with a handgun. The victim, a 31 year old male resident of Portage, was transported from the scene to Bronson Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was described as a black male about 5’9” to 5’11” tall with a thin build wearing a red shirt. The suspect was also accompanied by another unknown black male who may have acted as a lookout.
