Felonious Assault Suspect Arrested

Kalamazoo, MI: On September 30, 2017 at approximately 9:34 PM Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1100 block of March St for a report of a large fight. While on scene, officers were approached by a subject that stated a male had threatened them with a handgun. The suspect was then observed going into a nearby residence.

Officers surrounded the house and repeatedly attempted to make contact with the suspect. There was no response. A search warrant was obtained and Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team was activated. The search warrant was served and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Evidence of the crime was also recovered from the residence.

The suspect, a 34 year old resident of Kalamazoo, was arrested for felonious assault and an outstanding warrant.

Drugs and handguns seized from residence in 1400 block of Princeton

Kalamazoo, MI: On June 13th, investigators from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, along with officers from the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team, executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of Princeton Ave. This warrant was in reference to citizen complaints of high levels of drug activity and violence in the area, which were affecting the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Upon arriving at the residence, two adult suspects were located inside. Three additional subjects were detained outside of the residence. During a search of the home and vehicles, investigators located over 35 grams of suspected Fentanyl (over 350 user doses), one ounce of Crystal Methamphetamine, over a pound of Marijuana, two loaded handguns and evidence of drug distribution. One of the handguns located was stolen from Cheboygan, MI. A third suspect was located at a different location.

A 29 year old Benton Harbor man was arrested for Possession With Intent to Deliver Fentanyl, Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Firearms and three outstanding warrants. A 28 year old Kalamazoo man was arrested for Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and three outstanding warrants. A third suspect was not arrested but will be charged with Possession With Intent to Deliver Marijuana and Maintaining a Drug House, at a later date. All charges will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

This investigation was assisted by the numerous citizen tips and complaints made in reference to this neighborhood nuisance. Investigators made contact with several citizens in the neighborhood in reference to the action taken during this investigation. All citizens contacted were thankful and appreciative that the problem house was addressed.

Domestic assault suspect arrested in 800 block of Gibson St

Kalamazoo, MI: Early Friday morning, February 5th, 2016, at approximately 12:30a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a house in the 800 blk. of Gibson on a report of a domestic assault. The suspect was reported to be armed with a handgun but was arrested without incident after he surrendered.

The female victim was able to exit the home to the safety of officers: the suspect, a 32 year old male from Kalamazoo, remained inside the house and refused to comply with police orders. The suspect has 69 involvements with KDPS, is a known gang member, and has over ten prior offenses for assault and resisting police.

Officers surrounded the house and attempted to convince the suspect to peacefully surrender; the suspect refused to come out. Because he was considered armed, dangerous, and refused to comply with officers, Kalamazoo Metro SWAT was summoned.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the residence. The suspect exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. Evidence was later seized from the residence. Charges relating to domestic assault and another felony charge are pending after review of this case by the prosecutor’s office.
