Child Death Under Investigation

On July 9, 2017, at approximately 5:11am, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a medical rescue of a 4 year old child not breathing in the 3900 block of Mt Olivet. The first arriving officer immediately began to perform CPR on the child. It was apparent to officers the child had suffered some physical trauma. Officers performed CPR on the child for over 50 minutes, but were not able to revive the child. Members of the Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Lab were called in. Two additional children in the home were taken into protective custody by child protective services.

A 34 year old male Kalamazoo resident and a 33 year old female Kalamazoo resident were arrested. No further information on their charges or names will be released pending their arraignment.

Detectives investigating suspicious death on Douglas Ave

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, March 26, 2016, at approximately 9:38 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 1100 block of Douglas Ave on a report of a child not breathing. Officers arrived to find a 4-year old child not responsive and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating this as suspicious at this time. More information will be learned following the findings of an autopsy.

The name of the victim will not be released until all notifications have been made.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the victim who would have celebrated her 4th birthday today.

***Update***

The name of the young female victim is Kharisma Richardson, date of birth 03-26-2012. This is an on-going investigation and there aren’t any updates to provide at this time.
