Personal Injury accident

Kalamazoo, MI: On 2-8-2017, at approximately 8:08 p.m, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 4300 block of Stadium Dr. in regards to a personal injury accident.

As officers arrived a 26 year old female Kalamazoo resident was located lying in the roadway. This victim was treated and transported to Bronson Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

During the course of the investigation Stadium Dr traffic was temporarily diverted around the crash scene. Furthermore, the accident involved two vehicles. One of the vehicles remained on scene. The second vehicle fled prior to officer’s arrival. This vehicle was described as a white, 4-door Mazda sedan. Officers are working to identify the driver of the vehicle that fled.

Armed Robbery in 4700 Block of Stadium Dr

Kalamazoo, MI: On September 14, 2017 at approximately 02:30am KDPS officers responded to a gas station in the 4700 block of Stadium Drive for a report of an Armed Robbery.

A male and female had entered the business and the male suspect pointed a handgun at the store clerk and demanded money. The two suspects then left the store and quickly fled on foot. A police K9 conducted a track of the suspects which led to a nearby parking lot.

Officers were able to check surveillance footage and learned that the two suspects had previously been in the store minutes before the robbery. The two suspects left the store in a vehicle but later returned on foot and committed the robbery.

The following suspect descriptions were obtained:

Suspect #1: Black male in his mid 20’s approximately 5’10”-6’00” tall with a medium build. This suspect was wearing dark gray colored pants, a light gray hooded sweatshirt, black shoes, and was armed with a handgun.

Suspect #2: Black female in her mid 20’s approximately 5’06”, 130 pounds wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, pajama style jeans, and white tennis shoes. This suspect was also wearing a T-shirt under the sweatshirt with the letters, “U and I,” visible.

Suspect Vehicle: The two suspects were driving a 2011-2013 Ford Focus 4 door that was a bright red color.

Help identify suspect who recklessly discharged firearm

UPDATE: On 1/26/17 a 32 year old Van Buren County resident contacted the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and advised that he was the individual who had discharged the firearm. The suspect is cooperating with investigators and the firearm has been recovered. The case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors office for review.

Kalamazoo, MI: On January 13, 2017 at approximately 1:30pm KDPS responded to 4608 Stadium Dr, Jimmy Johns, reference a reckless discharge of a firearm. It was reported that a white male discharged a firearm in the restroom. He left without identifying himself.

The suspect is a white male around 40 years old. He was wearing jeans, black shoes, a black shirt, and purple, black, and white coat. He was wearing a camouflage winter hat and glasses. He came out of the bathroom with a shaved head and has a beard. He is about 300 pounds and walks with a cane. The suspect was captured on surveillance footage.

Natural gas leak on Stadium Dr

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 12, 2016 at 11:06 am Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a reported of a natural gas leak in the 3000 Blk of Stadium Dr. Officers arrived on scene and found that a construction crew had accidently cut a natural gas line.

Traffic on Stadium Dr was shut down for a short period of time and one business was evacuated. Consumers energy arrived on scene and was able to fix the gas line.

No one was injured during this incident.

Man found unresponsive inside vehicle

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at approximately 10:32 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 4400 block of Stadium Dr regarding a man found unresponsive inside a vehicle. Upon arrival they found a 32 year old male slumped over in the front seat of a Red S-10 pickup. It was obvious the male had been there for a long period of time. The scene was secured and Lab personnel called in to investigate.

The male has been identified as Stephen Max Heuer from the Edwardsburg, MI area. No indications of foul play were immediately apparent. The exact cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is performed. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Heuer.
