Contact with suspicious vehicle leads to arrests and gun seizure

October 14, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 14, 2016 an officer with KDPS checked on a suspicious vehicle in a Spring Valley Park parking lot. There were two occupants in the front seats of the vehicle. Immediately upon contact, the officer observed a semiautomatic handgun between the two occupants. While waiting for backup officers to arrive the officer gave verbal instructions to the occupants of the vehicle; the occupants obeyed. When backup officers arrived the two occupants were safely removed from the vehicle. The handgun was found to be loaded. Furthermore, the search of the vehicle revealed the presence of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, a 27 year old female Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for a warrant unrelated to this incident. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 28 year old male Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. Several other narcotic related charges will be requested against the male pending further review.

Anyone who may have information regarding this investigation or other crimes in Kalamazoo is asked to call Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
