Man shot in 1900 block of S Westnedge Ave

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday December 31, 2016 at 11:18 a.m. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 1900 block of South Westnedge Avenue in the City of Kalamazoo. A man walking in the area called 911 reporting a white male was shot in the parking lot of a nearby hotel and walked from the area. Public Safety Officer Larison Stuglik located the 48 year old Vicksburg man a short distance from the scene and learned he was shot in the foot suffering only a minor injury. LIFE EMS paramedics treated and released the victim.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene corroborating victim and witness statements. Witnesses described the suspect in this case as a black female in her 40s with a thin build accompanied by a black female in her 20s with a large afro. No further description was given to police and the suspect has not been identified. Police do not believe this incident was a random shooting posing a risk to the public.

Multiple gunshots fired into residence on Southworth Terrace

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, December 18th, 2016, at approximately 1:54 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 900 block of Southworth Terrace on a report of a male subject in a vehicle firing shots into a house. Upon arrival, officers witnessed the suspect vehicle parked in the middle of the street in the 900 block of Southworth Terrace. The arriving officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, but the suspect fled in a vehicle. The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody after a short vehicle pursuit.

The male suspect, a 37 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested on multiple felony charges which include: Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling, Fleeing and Eluding and Operating While Intoxicated. No one was injured as a result of the shooting.

Subject shot in 1100 block of S Westnedge Ave

Kalamazoo, MI: On December 16th, 2016 at approximately 2245 hours. Kalamazoo Public Safety received a call of a person shot inside of a home in the 1100 block of S. Westnedge. PSO’s arrived on scene to find a 49 year old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. The suspect had fled the scene on foot prior to officer’s arrival.

The investigation revealed the suspect came to the home and engaged the victim in an argument in which the suspect displayed a gun and shot the victim. The victim and the suspect are known to each other. A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety K-9 was called to the scene and was able to track the suspect to a home in the 400 block of Den Adel. The occupants were contacted at this residence and confirmed the suspect was inside. The suspect refused to exit the home. The Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team was called to the scene and the home was surrounded. A Police negotiator attempted to coax the suspect outside. After several hours, the suspect refused to exit and the Tactical Team with a Police K-9 entered the home. Upon entering the home, the suspect surrendered without incident. The suspect is a 27 year old Kalamazoo resident.

The victim was transported by Life Ambulance and was treated for his wound. Kalamazoo Public Safety is still investigating this incident and charges are forthcoming.

Shooting investigated in the 3600 block of W Michigan Ave

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, December 5, 2016, at approximately 10:10 p.m, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a report of a person shooting at another. Upon arrival, Officers did not locate anyone on scene. A Police K-9 track was initiated, as it was reported by witnesses that the victim fled on foot. As the K-9 officer was tracking, the victim called 911 to report he had been shot and was at a nearby apartment. Officers responded and provided medical care to the victim. The victim, an 18 year Kalamazoo resident, was transported by Life Ambulance to Bronson hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. During the investigation, the victim claimed he was trying to purchase marijuana from the suspect when the shooting occurred. The suspect, later identified as a 17 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested at his home several hours after the incident. A gun was recovered at the home at the time of the arrest. The incident is still under investigation.

Man shot during drug deal – suspect in custody

This is an update for the following news releases:

On Friday, October 28, 2016, Jackson was taken into custody at approximately 8:30 pm EST in Indianapolis, by the Indiana State Police. Jackson was in possession of a handgun and more marijuana. He was arrested without incident.

It is unknown at this time when Jackson will be extradited back to Michigan as he will be facing the weapon and drug charges in Indiana.
