Suspect Arrested after Shooting Incident

May 9, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On May 06, 2017, around 2316hrs, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to the area of 1400 Fox Ridge Dr regarding a male who reporting that he had been shot at. The victim knew the suspect in the incident and described the suspect’s vehicle as it was fleeing. KDPS dispatchers immediately relayed the information to officers in the area. The vehicle was quickly located near Douglas Ave and Conant St and a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle fled from officers and after a short pursuit the driver was taken into custody. A loaded handgun was recovered from the traffic stop and identified as the weapon used in the incident.

A 20 year old male suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on multiple gun related charges, attempted murder, and fleeing eluding.

Update: 2 Shot in the 900 Block of N. Church St.

April 10, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday April 10th , 2017 at approximately 6:20 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a fight and several shots fired. Upon arrival Officers located a 22 year old male that had been shot and a 40 year old female that had been shot in the leg. Officers conducted CPR on the male and he was transported to Bronson Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries. The female was transported to Borgess Hospital and is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

At this time, Public Safety Detectives are questioning two subjects believed to be involved in the incident. The incident is still active and the investigation is ongoing.

The deceased victim of the shooting has been identified as Bernard Andrew Kye, 3-1-95. The female victim will not be identified at this time. She is still in stable condition.

Shooting Investigated in Interfaith Homes

March 25, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, March 25th, at approximately 3:26 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to several reports of shots fired in the 1000 block of Interfaith. As officers were responding to this call, a male was transported by private vehicle to the emergency room of Bronson Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers were then also dispatched to the hospital and able to determine that the 28 year old victim had been shot recently in the 1000 block of Interfaith. The male was immediately rushed into surgery and could not provide a statement. A witness that was with the victim was unable to provide any information as to how the shooting occurred. Officers located several spent shell casings in the parking lot, but were unable to find any witnesses. There are no suspects in this incident at the current time.

Officers investigate accidental shooting

March 6, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On 3-5-2017, at approximately 8:00 P.M, a subject arrived at Bronson hospital stating that he had been shot and was found to have a bullet wound to his leg. As the investigation progressed it became apparent that he accidentally shot himself. Narcotics were located in the vehicle he came to the hospital in and the gun was recovered along Stadium near Oliver where it had been discarded.

The 25 year old Kalamazoo resident was not arrested due to his medical condition. A case was written and will be forwarded to the Office of the Prosecutor for review.

Accidental shooting injures female, male subject arrested

January 25, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On 01-25-17 at approximately 3:00 pm officers responded to the 300 Block of Phelps in reference to a subject that had been shot. On arrival, officers found a female victim that had been shot in the leg. She was transported to Bronson Hospital and her injuries were determined to be non- life threatening.

The female victim told officers that during horseplay she had been accidentally shot in the leg by a male acquaintance, who was in possession of a handgun. The handgun was located at the scene and found to have been reported stolen out of Grand Rapids.

The male subject was arrested for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Stolen Handgun. He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
