Update: Body Located in Flood Waters

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, February 25, 2018, at approximately 11:12 AM, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Riverview Drive regarding a report of a dead body in the water.

Kalamazoo Public Safety has identified the subject as James Jackson, a forty-eight (48) year old Kalamazoo resident. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety extends our sincere sympathy to Mr. Jackson’s family and friends.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.

Carjacking Suspect Arrested

May 4, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On May 3rd 2017, at approx. 10:54pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Riverview and Gull for a report of a carjacking that had just occurred. The female victim reported that she was driving her car when her male passenger assaulted her, forced her from the vehicle, and then stole the vehicle from her.

Thanks to information provided by an alert citizen, Kalamazoo Township and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers located the stolen vehicle, and the suspect, within 30 minutes in the 1000 block of Darwood Ave, in Kalamazoo Township. The suspect, a 31 year old man from Inkster, MI, was arrested and charged with carjacking, operating while intoxicated, resisting and obstructing officers, and possession of marijuana.

Three injured in accident

February 12, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On 2-9-2017, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the intersection of Mt. Olivet and Riverview in reference to a personal injury accident. Upon arrival, officers located two vehicles with heavy damage. The investigation revealed that a 46 year old male driver ran a stop sign at Mt. Olivet and Riverview striking a vehicle occupied by a 35 year old female and her 3 year old child. The male driver was found unconscious and it appears alcohol and drugs were a factor in the accident. The female was transported to Borgess Hospital with a hip injury. The child was believed to be uninjured. The Male driver was also transported to a hospital for treatment and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Kalamazoo Public Safety is still investigating the incident and officers will be seeking charges for Operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. There are no further details at this time.

Armed robbery reported at McDonald’s on Riverview Dr

KALAMAZOO, MI: On December, 25, 2016, at about 12:14 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to 830 Riverview Drive, McDonald’s, regarding an Armed Robbery that had just occurred. On arrival, officers contacted a store employee who reported being confronted by the suspect who was armed with a hand gun. The suspect demanded money and ordered the employee into a walk in freezer. The employee was uninjured and later called police. At the time of the incident, the store was closed.

The suspect left the store on foot. Responding officers established a perimeter and called in a Public Safety K9. However, the suspect was not located. The suspect is described as a black male standing 5’10” weighing 220 lbs with a stocky build. The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
