Two Subjects In Custody After Break In

October 30, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 28, 2017, at approximately 10:39pm Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to the 2000 block of Palmer Ave. An alert business owner observed two subjects inside his repair shop on video surveillance cameras. Officers responded and set up a perimeter around the building, soon after both suspects attempted to flee out a side door. The juvenile suspect was quickly captured however the 19 year old Kalamazoo resident was more determined to escape.

The 19 year old ran back inside the building and attempted to escape by cutting holes through the drywall into the adjacent businesses. He did this through 3-4 consecutive businesses. With the aid of KDPS Police K9 Bach and his handler, officers were able to track him through the building and into a warehouse, where he was found hiding in the rafters. He was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Bronson for minor injuries he suffered while trying to escape. The 19 year old adult was lodged at Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department for Breaking and Entering and Resisting and Obstructing Police. The juvenile was lodged at Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home for the same charges.

Anyone having information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
