Investigation leads to crack cocaine and marijuana

Kalamazoo, MI: Saturday, October 01, 2016 at approximately 10:00 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the report of shots fired at a vacant home in the 200 block of E. Frank St. Upon arrival Officers observed a vehicle leaving the driveway of the vacant home. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle while other Officers checked the home. No victim or suspects were found inside the home. However, the traffic investigation revealed a 22 year old Kalamazoo resident wanted on outstanding arrest warrants. Another 22 year old Kalamazoo resident was in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and over $600 in cash. This person was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for Possession of crack cocaine and marijuana with the intent to deliver. No weapon was located in this investigation.

Traffic stop leads to recovery of drugs and a firearm

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety has been conducting overt directed patrols in the Campus area this week due to the anticipation of large crowds during Western Michigan University Move In week. During this time extra patrols and additional officers are tasked with handling numerous Quality of Life issues in the off campus area of W. Michigan associated with Welcome Week. On September 1st, 2016 officers observed several subjects in a car actively involved in drug use. Officers made contact with 5 occupants of the vehicle and during the investigation, marijuana was located. During a search of two of the subjects, two loaded handguns were located in the waistband of both of the subjects. Officers arrested two 21 year old males from the Flint area on charges of Carrying a Concealed weapon, Posssession of marijuana and receiving and concealing stolen property.The investigation also revealed one of the handguns was stolen. Both subjects were visting from Flint and were in town to partake in move in week festivities.

Stun gun and marijuana seized

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, July 31, 2016, at approximately 4:30 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were in the 800 block of Woodbury monitoring a large crowd when they observed a vehicle playing loud music. Officers made contact with the female driver of the vehicle and she was found to have an outstanding warrant out for her arrest. The driver was arrested and during a search of her person, she was found to be in possession of a taser/stun gun and marijuana. Officers searched her vehicle and additional marijuana was located.

The 20 year old Kalamazoo female resident was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for Possession of a Stun Gun, Possession of Marijuana, Excessive Noise, and on an outstanding warrant.

Citizen tip leads to the recovery of drugs and money

On July 8, 2016 around 2:30p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Steven Heyduck was conducting foot patrol in the Riverview Cops located in the 1000blk of Bridge. A resident of the complex stopped Officer Heyduck to speak with him about drug sales in the area. The citizen reported narcotics being sold from an apartment in the 1000blk of Bridge St. Officer’s Heyduck and Timothy Millard responded to the apartment where contact was made with a resident. Officers began an investigation and made entry into the residence. Once inside, officers located several pounds of processed marijuana packaged for street sales, digital scales and over $35,000 dollars in US currency. The suspect is a Kalamazoo resident in his twenties. He will be facing charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and maintaining a drug house.

This type of investigation would not have been possible without both the public and the police working together to address quality of life issues in our city. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind residents to continue to call or stop officers when they see criminal activity.
