Pedestrian Hit and Run Accident

Kalamazoo, MI: On July 23, 2017, at approximately 0126 hrs, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 500 block of E Michigan Avenue regarding a male subject who was struck by a vehicle. The suspect vehicle failed to stop following the accident and fled the scene.

A 30 year old Kalamazoo resident was found lying in the street unresponsive. The victim was transported to Bronson Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Witnesses described the suspects as two younger black males driving a gray colored vehicle with front end damage. The vehicle fled east on E Michigan and has not been located. The circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

Hit and run suspect/parolee arrested

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday, February 1st, 2017, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of Garden Street. One 37 year old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for Failure to Stop at the Scene of Property Damage Accident and a Parole Violation.

KDPS Officers were investigating a hit and run accident that occurred at the intersection of Jackson/Mills. The suspect in the hit and run was determined to be a Parolee with the Michigan Department of Corrections. KDPS Officers determined the suspect was inside a residence in the 1000 block of Garden Street. The suspect refused to exit the residence and a search warrant was obtained to arrest the suspect for Failure to Stop at the Scene of Property Damage Accident and a Parole Violation. During the execution of the search warrant the suspect was located inside the residence and arrested.

No one was injured during this incident. The investigation regarding the hit and run remains under investigation by the Operations Division.

Two children injured in hit and run accident

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday November 29, 2016 at approximately 6:11 PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a personal injury accident where two children had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival officers found a 3 year old and 5 year old who had, both, been struck by a vehicle. The victims were given immediate medical attention and were then transported to Bronson Hospital by Life Ambulance. The victims, who were accompanied by a parent, were crossing Race street when a vehicle that was heading eastbound on Egleston Avenue, struck them and fled the scene. The 3 year old is listed as stable and the 5 year old is in critical condition.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older style mini-van that is darker in color, possibly brown. The suspect vehicle was last observed leaving the scene, eastbound on Egleston Avenue. Officers are currently on scene investigating.

UPDATE: Pedestrians struck and injured in hit and run

Kalamazoo Public Safety is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for hitting two people on September 12, 2016 in the 1100 block of Sherwood Ave.

The vehicle will be a 2006-2008 black Cadillac STS, 4 door. The front of the vehicle will have front end damage.

The female victim is still in the hospital at Spectrum and we would like to hold the person accountable for putting her there.

Pedestrians struck and injured in hit and run

September 13, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, September 12, 2016 at approximately 10:56 PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of two injured subjects in the 1100 block of Sherwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a 32 year old female and a 48 year old male with serious injuries due to being struck by a vehicle. The female victim was unresponsive but breathing and the male victim was alert and conscious. The victims were transported to Bronson Hospital and the female victim is currently in critical condition and the male victim is in serious condition. The involved vehicle fled the scene prior to officers arriving. The limited suspect information is that the vehicle is a sedan that is either gray or black in color. The incident remains under investigation. The suspect vehicle should have some type of front end damage.
