**UPDATED 08/13/2016**

On Friday, August 12, 2016, Kalamazoo Public Safety received information from a concerned citizen regarding the owner of the involved dog after viewing the story on the local news. From this tip and through additional investigation, the dog owner was identified as a 62 yr-old male Kalamazoo resident. A criminal case against the dog owner is being submitted to the Kalamazoo City Attorney for review.

Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to thank and remind all citizens that through collaboration such as this we can continue to keep Kalamazoo a safe city.

On July 27, 2016, at approximately 11:13 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 700-block of Egleston for a report of a man being attacked by a dog. The first officer arrived within minutes, and located a 60 year old Kalamazoo resident trying to fend off a large dog that was biting his arm. The citizen and dog were covered in blood. To stop the vicious attack, the officer was forced to shoot the dog which ultimately died. Officers and paramedics provided first aid to the citizen, and he was transported to the hospital to be treated for several severe injuries.

The citizen who was bitten by the dog said he had been riding his bicycle on Egleston when the dog attacked him. Witnesses reported the attack lasted for several minutes. The owner of the dog has not been identified.
