KDPS Hoops Contest

May 11, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On May 10, 2017 at approximately 6:00pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers received to a call for service at Milwood Middle School. Officers responding to the call began interacting with the young men and women socializing at the basketball court. Public Safety Officers Reidenbach, Spann, Radenovic, Oliver and Halcrow engaged with the youth. PSO’s Reidenbach and Spann became involved in a long shot contest with the group.

PSO Spann began the competition with a couple of air balls; this resulted in “boos” from the gallery. PSO Reidenbach stepped up and on his first and only attempt, redeemed Public Safety and drained a long range shot, resulting in pandemonium from the excited spectators!

Kalamazoo Public Safety is committed to positive interaction in our communities. One of our priorities is to build relationships within our city, with an emphasis on our youth.

Newest KDPS officers on scavenger hunt

December 14, 2015 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

officersKalamazoo, MI: The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s 14 newest public safety officers began their six-week KDPS advanced academy training today. They will be instructed on a variety of topics with the bulk of this week focusing on Cultural Awareness.

As a new and creative approach to learning about the City of Kalamazoo and to meet citizens they will be protecting and serving, they were assigned to do a scavenger hunt that has them going to various organizations, businesses, and locations. They are currently on the scavenger hunt, and will be about town introducing themselves until approximately 3 p.m.

The goals are to make them comfortable with proactive community engagement, to foster building positive relationships and networking, to obtain information so they can become referral sources, and to engage in working in teams.

You can follow their journeys on the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/KalamazooPublicSafety/.
