KVET seizes large amount of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and heroin

Kalamazoo, MI: On January 23rd, investigators from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team executed a search warrant in the 3300 block of W Main St in the Township of Kalamazoo. This warrant was in reference to an on-going investigation into the distribution of Heroin and Crack Cocaine from a suspect living in the area.

Prior to executing the search warrant, the suspect was arrested outside of the residence. A search of his person revealed a large amount of Crack Cocaine, Powder Cocaine and over 8 grams of high quality Heroin, equal to approximately 80 user doses of heroin.

Upon searching the residence, investigators located additional Powder Cocaine, evidence of the manufacturing of Crack Cocaine, a loaded handgun and over $23,000.00 in US currency believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking. A 26 year old Kalamazoo Township man was arrested for Possession With Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession With Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine, Possession With Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Felony Firearms, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Maintaining a Drug House. The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. This case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

KVET investigators will continue to aggressively investigate heroin distribution in Kalamazoo County in order to combat this horrible drug.

Officers execute search warrant, locate firearms and suspected drugs

Kalamazoo, MI: On January 5th, investigators from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, along with officers from the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team, executed a search warrant in the 700 block of Hawley St. This warrant was in reference to citizen complaints of high levels of drug activity and violence in the area which were affecting the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Upon entering the residence, three adults were located inside. During a search of the home, investigators located two loaded handguns stationed at each door of the residence, two loaded shotguns, suspected Crack Cocaine, suspected powder Cocaine, and a large amount of US currency. One of the shotguns was reported stolen in 2016 from Battle Creek.

Of the three adults located in the home, two were arrested for several felony charges. A 35 year old Kalamazoo man was arrested for Felony Firearms, Felon in Possession of a firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and Maintaining a Drug House. A 31 year old Detroit man was arrested for Felony Firearms, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and Maintaining a Drug House. Both suspects were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. This case will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office for review.

Investigators made contact with several citizens in the neighborhood in reference to the action taken during this investigation. Many of the citizens contacted expressed their appreciation to the officers for addressing this problem house.

Traffic stop leads to recovery of drugs and a firearm

On November 14, 2016 at approximately 0030 hours Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Sean Szekely conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near S. Rose Street near Wall Street. During the investigation a backseat passenger was found to have cocaine on his person. Lying on the floor near where the backseat passenger was sitting was a loaded 9mm handgun that was stolen out of Kalamazoo County. The 22 year old Kalamazoo male was arrested for Possession of Cocaine, CCW, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Felony Firearm.

The driver of the vehicle initially lied to officers about his name. When officers learned the driver’s real identity he was found to have 9 outstanding warrants for his arrest. The driver, a 21 year old male from Battle Creek was arrested on the 9 outstanding warrants, CCW, Felony Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated, and Obstruction by Disguise.
