Homeowner interrupts home invasion in progress

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 at approximately 11:47 am, a homeowner returned to their residence in the 2500 block of Waite Ave and discovered a female in their garage. The female suspect fled on foot into the neighborhood. KDPS Officers responded and a K9 track was conducted.

During this time an alert neighbor contacted KDPS and reported seeing a suspicious female in the area. With this information officers were able to locate the female, a 29 year old resident of Kalamazoo, and ultimately arrest her for the home invasion. The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County jail.

Two Subjects In Custody After Break In

October 30, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 28, 2017, at approximately 10:39pm Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to the 2000 block of Palmer Ave. An alert business owner observed two subjects inside his repair shop on video surveillance cameras. Officers responded and set up a perimeter around the building, soon after both suspects attempted to flee out a side door. The juvenile suspect was quickly captured however the 19 year old Kalamazoo resident was more determined to escape.

The 19 year old ran back inside the building and attempted to escape by cutting holes through the drywall into the adjacent businesses. He did this through 3-4 consecutive businesses. With the aid of KDPS Police K9 Bach and his handler, officers were able to track him through the building and into a warehouse, where he was found hiding in the rafters. He was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Bronson for minor injuries he suffered while trying to escape. The 19 year old adult was lodged at Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department for Breaking and Entering and Resisting and Obstructing Police. The juvenile was lodged at Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home for the same charges.

Breaking and Entering Suspects Apprehended

June 22, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On 6-21-17, at approximately 4:54 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to 3938 S. Westnedge, T&T Pawn Brokers after receiving a burglary alarm. The first responding officer found that a vehicle had been used to intentionally ram the front of the building to expose the interior. The officer observed three subjects entering the business. While waiting for additional officers to arrive, two of the subjects exited and began fleeing. The officer chased one of the subjects to the 600 block of Denway where he attempted to enter a stolen vehicle. He and the driver of the vehicle were taken into custody.

The second subject fled northbound and was located by a perimeter unit as a police K9 was conducting a track. The third suspect fled the business as the officer was chasing the first two subjects and was not located. The vehicle that the suspects used to ram the front door was also found to be stolen from the Kalamazoo area.

The three suspects, 17, 18, and 23 years old, were arrested for Breaking & Entering, Resisting and Obstructing, UDAA and Conspiracy. All three were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.

Three subjects arrested for home invasion

February 6, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On February 6, 2017 at approximately 12:50 pm officers responded to the 4000 Block of Escape Dr in reference to a subject breaking into the caller’s residence. On arrival, officers were not immediately able to locate the suspect and began to check the area.

A short time later a separate caller advised of three subjects attempting to gain entry into unoccupied cars in the 3800 Block of Pine Terrace Blvd, giving a description of the suspects. Officers quickly located the three subjects who were found to be in possession of stolen property from the home invasion in the 4000 Block of Escape Dr. The subjects were also in possession of stolen property from other home invasions that occurred earlier in the week in that same area.

The three subjects, two males and one female, were arrested for home invasion and possession of stolen property. They were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.

Euclid Ave homeowner awaken to burglar

February 2, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday February 1, 2017, at approximately 07:00 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1100 block of Euclid Ave. A resident was awakened to a stranger leaving out the back door. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers deployed a K9 track locating several stolen items nearby. The homeowner was uninjured during this incident. The suspect is still at large.
