1300 James St Stabbing

On May 09, 2017, around 2330 hrs, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to the area of 1300 block of James regarding stabbing. Upon arrival they found a 23 yo Kalamazoo resident stabbed multiple times in the torso. He was transported to the hospital where he is in stable condition. Nobody is under arrest at this time.

Felonious Assault Leads to Drug and Weapon Violations

Kalamazoo, MI: On March 29, 2017, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of N Church St regarding a domestic assault with a firearm. KDPS dispatch advised that the suspect used a handgun during the incident and fled the scene. Officers made contact with the victim to gather additional information and set up a perimeter for a K-9 track.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers observed the suspect walking back toward the initial scene and arrested him for domestic assault. Officers were not able to locate a firearm at that time. The residence was secured while officers applied for a search warrant. The search warrant was ultimately signed and executed. No one else was located inside the home.

A search of the residence revealed a stolen .380 caliber handgun, matching the one used in the assault. Officers also located additional .380 caliber ammunition, crack cocaine, marijuana and US Currency.

The suspect, a 29 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for Felony Domestic Assault. Officers are also submitting charges for drug and weapons violations. Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are still investigating leads and other potential suspects in the case.

Man arrested for assault causing great bodily harm

Kalamazoo, MI: On 2-14-2017 Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers made contact with a 38 year old assault victim at Bronson Hospital. The victim had been viciously beaten in the parking lot of a business in the 100 block of E. Cork at approximately 6 p.m. The victim stated a 49 year old male and 40 year old female acquaintance assaulted her over an outstanding money debt. The male had punched the female in the face multiple times, causing facial fractures and requiring brief hospitalization.

During the investigation, it was learned the male and female suspect live together in the 100 block of Allen Street. Officers responded to the suspect’s home and he refused to answer the door. The male suspect has an extensive history of violent crime involving weapons and was known to carry a gun. Based on his past criminal history and access to weapons, the Kalamazoo Metro Tactical Team was activated to serve a search warrant at the suspects address. During service of the warrant, the male suspect exited the house and was taken into custody without incident. The second female suspect was not located inside. During the search of the home, a firearm was located inside of the residence.

The male suspect was arrested for Assault with Intent to cause Great Bodily Harm and was lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail. A warrant is being sought for the female suspect for simple assault.

Suspect arrested after threatening to harm citizen over parking space

January 20, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On January 20, 2017, around 1339 hrs, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 700 blk of W Kalamazoo for an assault. The victim in this case called 911 to report that a neighboring resident assaulted him after he temporarily parked in the suspect’s parking space. When the victim did not move his vehicle, the suspect went inside his residence and retrieved an M4 style assault rifle. When the suspect came back outside, he aggressively pointed the firearm in the faces of the victim as well as another neighbor while making threatening statements. The victim moved his vehicle and called the police.

As officers were investigating the incident, they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the suspect’s vehicle as well as his residence. As the investigation unfolded, the M4 assault rifle and marijuana were seized from the suspect’s residence. The suspect is a 21 year old male who will be facing charges of Felonious Assault and possession of marijuana.

Help identify Knollwood Ave assault suspect

Kalamazoo, MI: On Sunday, October 30, 2016, at approximately 1:40 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the area of 1600 Knollwood for a report of an assault. Officers arrived and found 3 victims injured during the assault. Two of the victims required stitches as a result of their injuries, one of those victims will require more medical procedures as a result of this incident.

There were approximately 200-300 people in the area during this assault; however, no one was able to identify any of the suspects in this case.

During the course of this investigation, video of the assault was located and a screen shot of one of the suspects is posted in this news release. KDPS is requesting the public’s help in identifying this person in the black shirt with the beard.
