Driver flees on foot after an accident injuring two people

Kalamazoo, MI: On October 29, 2016, officers from Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the area of W Vine and S Rose regarding a personal injury accident. Upon arrival, officers located two females that had been injured in the accident. The accident investigation showed that the suspect vehicle ran a red light and struck the driver’s side of their vehicle. Witnesses indicated the suspect / at-fault driver fled on foot. A K-9 track was conducted that lead to the discovery of several of the suspect’s articles of clothing and suspected drugs that had been discarded by the fleeing suspect. However, the suspect was not located.

The suspect has been identified as a 36 year old male Kalamazoo resident who is already wanted on two outstanding warrants. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital for treatment, their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

Single vehicle rollover accident

KALAMAZOO, MI: On Sunday, October 2, 2016, at approximately 0400 hours officers responded to the area of Douglas and Paterson for an unknown accident. The caller reported that a vehicle had crashed and was upside down. The first arriving officers located one lone male occupant trapped inside the vehicle. The male inside the vehicle had visible injuries however remained conscious and alert as officers utilized the hydraulic tools from the fire engine to pry and cut an opening into the vehicle.

Once there was access into the vehicle, the male was able to maneuver himself away from the back window and out through the opening created. Officers and LIFE paramedics assisted the male into the ambulance where he was taken to Bronson Hospital for further treatment.

Charges are being sought against the 23 year old Kalamazoo resident for Operating While Intoxicated and Driving without a License.

Driver crashes vehicle, lands on top of second vehicle

Kalamazoo, MI: On July 23, 2016 at 1527 hours, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a single motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Cadillac and Douglas.  PSO Chelsea Parise was immediately on scene and reported that a vehicle had struck a tree with enough force to turn 90 degrees in the air and land onto a nearby unoccupied parked car.

The passenger, self extricated himself from the vehicle and was transported to a nearby Hospital with minor injuries.  The driver, a 26 year old resident of Kalamazoo, had to be extricated from the car.  Once the driver was released from the wreckage, he was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, who was driving on a license which was suspended indefinitely, stated he was operating the vehicle with the knowledge that the brakes were not functioning properly.  The driver lost control after accelerating down Summit Park and was unable to stop at the stop sign; the car struck a tree head on which caused the vehicle to spin through the air landing on the parked vehicle on Cadillac Street.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety encourages all motorists to have routine inspections and maintenance on their vehicles.

Officers respond to rollover accident, minor injuries reported

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday June 29, 2016, at approximately 2:35 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the intersection of S Westnedge Ave and Howard St for a report of a vehicle accident, where one vehicle had rolled over.

A 29 year old Decatur resident was travelling southbound on Westnedge Ave in an SUV type vehicle. A 19 year old woman from Kalamazoo was travelling east on Howard St and was distracted. As a result, she ran a the red light, colliding with the side of the other vehicle causing it to roll onto its side. The Decatur woman suffered minor scrapes and bruises, the occupants of the other vehicle did not sustain any injuries. All parties were evaluated by paramedics on scene and released.

Officers respond to accident involving motorcycle and SUV

Kalamazoo, MI: On Thursday June 23, 2016, at approximately 9:02 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to an accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV near the intersection of S. Burdick and Crescent Street. The motorcycle, which was traveling southbound on Burdick, lost control rounding the curve and crashed. The driver, a 33 year old male, and passenger, a 38 year old female, fell from the motorcycle sliding into the SUV and sustained non life threatening injuries. The SUV driven by an alert driver slowed to a stop before hitting the motorcycle. The driver of the SUV was uninjured. The driver of the motorcycle was taken by a friend to Borgess Hospital. The passenger of the motorcycle was taken by Life to Bronson. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
