Car crashes into house

Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, May 15, 2017 at 1:20 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to 3800 Blk of Portage Rd, regarding a vehicle that crashed into a house.

KDPS officers responded and located a car that had crashed into the corner of a house. The driver, a 19 year old Kalamazoo resident, sustained injuries to her head and face. No other occupants were in the vehicle. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The house sustained structural damage but none of the occupants of the home were injured.

The investigation is still on-going in determining the cause of the crash.

Vehicle accident leads to multiple charges

May 15, 2017 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

On May 14, 2017 at approximately 0750hrs, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was called to the 1400 Block of W Main St in reference to a vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival, officers found a small pickup truck had careened off the roadway and launched into the front porch of a residence. Prior to the arrival of emergency responders, the operator climbed out of the truck and collapsed on the roadway. Fire and medical personnel quickly rendered aid and the operator was transported to an area hospital.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a large quantity of stolen property, methamphetamine lab components, drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of suspected narcotics. At this time, drugs and/or alcohol are suspected to be factors in the accident.

Several charges will be sought against the operator, a 25 year old Kalamazoo resident.

Two children injured in hit and run accident

November 29, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday November 29, 2016 at approximately 6:11 PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of a personal injury accident where two children had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival officers found a 3 year old and 5 year old who had, both, been struck by a vehicle. The victims were given immediate medical attention and were then transported to Bronson Hospital by Life Ambulance. The victims, who were accompanied by a parent, were crossing Race street when a vehicle that was heading eastbound on Egleston Avenue, struck them and fled the scene. The 3 year old is listed as stable and the 5 year old is in critical condition.

The suspect vehicle is described as an older style mini-van that is darker in color, possibly brown. The suspect vehicle was last observed leaving the scene, eastbound on Egleston Avenue. Officers are currently on scene investigating.

S Westnedge Ave closed briefly following a two car accident

Kalamazoo, MI:On November 27, 2016 at about 4:24am Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety began checking the area of S Westnedge and W Michigan after an officer in the area heard a collision. The accident was located at that intersection involving two vehicles and a light pole. The light pole was severed off at the base with a power line lying across S Westnedge. The at-fault driver fled the scene on foot and has not yet been located at the time of this release.

S Westnedge was closed from W Michigan to Academy until Consumers Energy could respond to remove the power line from the roadway.

Child injured in possible accident

November 7, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On 11-5-2016, at approximately 2004 hours, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1300 block of March Street in reference to a personal injury accident. Upon arrival officers located a 6 year-old Kalamazoo resident down on the street. The driver of the vehicle, a 26 year old female, was attempting to leave a house in the area when it is believed the child attempted to enter the car on the passenger side of the vehicle. Just prior to leaving the home, the child had mentioned that they wanted to leave with the driver. The driver informed to the child, whom is not related, to stay at the home. It appears the driver was unaware the child followed her to her vehicle. The child was injured in an unknown manner and was transported by Ambulance to Bronson Hospital. The child is currently in Critical, but stable condition. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating in this investigation. Officers are still investigating the incident and there are no further details at this time.
