Explorer Post 265

explorer2014The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Explorer Post is comprised of young adults from the age range of 14 to 21 who are interested in law enforcement, fire fighting, or other leadership style careers. The mission of the Explorer Program is to build self-confidence in our Explorers, while laying a foundation of ethics, respect, honesty, and integrity. A parallel goal is to provide a qualified and diverse pool of Kalamazoo Public Safety applicants.

Recruiting

Our goal is to recruit area youth and give them a foundation in public service to become future members of Kalamazoo Public Safety. Advisors and Explorers actively recruit at each event we attend. We visit several area schools and Public Safety youth academies.

The Post continues to recruit new members through our EFE program (Education for Employment) which is a high school academic program.

Some of the main eligibility requirements are as follows:

Applicant must:

  • Attend a Kalamazoo county high school OR a high school within 30 minutes driving distance to the City of Kalamazoo.
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA (or show significant recent improvement) until completion of high school
  • Must be between the age of 14-21 and have completed the 8th grade
  • No Misdemeanor or Felony convictions (extenuating circumstances may be evaluated on a case by case basis)

For additional Explorer meeting and requirements, contact Explorer advisers Aaron Jackson or Fidel Mireles.
