Kalamazoo teen killed in 1400 block of Lane Blvd

Update: Kalamazoo resident, Bruce Embry, (53 year old) has been charged with the death of Kalamazoo teen, Temetrion Hegler. Bruce Embry was arraigned this afternoon by Judge Haenicke in 8th District Court. Embry was arraigned on Open Murder, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Felony Firearm. Embry is currently lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail, he was denied bond.

Kalamazoo, MI: Public Safety Officers were sent to the 1400 block of Lane Blvd. this afternoon at 2:38pm on a report that a person had been shot. Officers arrived and located the victim on the floor in the home, dead of a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as Temetrion Hegler, age 17.

Mr. Hegler appears to have been shot by his step grandfather, a 53 year old Kalamazoo resident. The victim and suspect live together in the home where the incident occurred.

The suspect was arrested at the home by officers without incident and is currently lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail awaiting charges by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office. No further information will be released at this time.

Kalamazoo Public Safety extends our condolences to the family and friends of Temetrion Hegler.

Female injured after multiple gunshots fired

January 2, 2016 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, January 2nd, 2016, at approximately 3:09 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were flagged down by a victim of a shooting that had just occurred. The victim told officers that as she was driving in the 900 block of Nola Street, an unknown suspect fired multiple gunshots into her vehicle. The front seat passenger, a 22 year old female, sustained non-life threatening injuries to her right arm and was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment. The driver and rear seat passenger were not injured. The vehicle sustained damage including multiple bullet holes and broken windows. There are no suspects at this time. Public Safety officers continue to investigate what events led up to the shooting.

Man arrested for carrying a concealed weapon

Kalamazoo, MI: On Friday, January 01, 2016, at approximately 3:45 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the area of Patterson and Woodward regarding a large crowd forming. KDPS dispatch began taking calls of shots being fired in the area as officers were arriving. Officers were checking the area on foot and observed a subject carrying a gun in his hand and then put it into his pocket. The suspect fled on foot upon seeing officers approaching. The suspect discarded the gun while being chased. He was apprehended shortly thereafter without further incident. The loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered and found to have been stolen.

The suspect is a 22 year old Kalamazoo resident. He was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing, and felony firearm.

Stolen vehicle recovered, two arrested

December 31, 2015 by Kalamazoo Public Safety

Kalamazoo, MI: On Wednesday, 12-30-15, at approximately 4:30 pm Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers spotted a stolen vehicle. After two police K9 deployments two suspects were safely taken into custody.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were on the lookout for a stolen car, Ford Focus 4 door, that had been taken from a construction site downtown on Tuesday 12-29-15. The vehicle was spotted initially on North St. and a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle, occupied by four suspects, sped off but quickly crashed on Simpson St. All four occupants / suspects fled on foot after the crash. Officers quickly secured a four block perimeter and police K9 was deployed.

Two of the four suspects (the driver and front seat passenger) were found by PSO Heyduck and K9 Ike after tracking both of them to separate garages. Both suspects, juvenile males (13 and 14 yrs old), Kalamazoo Residents, were arrested without further incident. Arrests were made for various felony charges.

Man in critical condition after shooting on Westbrook Ave

shooting suspect compositeUPDATE: Public Safety Detectives are asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspects from the shooting incident in the 2700 block of Westbrook Ave. this afternoon. A composite drawing was completed on one of the suspects from the shooting. He is described as an African American male with light complexion. He is about 5’9” tall and 160lbs. He is described as being approximately 20-28 years old, wearing a white thermal long sleeve shirt, black jeans and a gray stocking cap. He also has a mustache and goatee. Please see the attached composite drawing.

Kalamazoo, MI: Public Safety Officers were sent to the 2700 block of Westbrook Ave. on a report of shots fired. Moments later, the victim of the shooting called police to report his injury. The victim was shot multiple times by an unknown suspect while the victim was inside his apartment.

The victim is a 20 year old Kalamazoo City resident. He is currently undergoing surgery at Bronson Hospital. The investigation is ongoing and there are no suspects in custody for the shooting incident at this time.
