Man Arrested After Shots Fired

Kalamazoo, MI:


On Monday, December 11th, 2019 at approximately 03:53 am, for the second consecutive day, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 200 block of Pierce Ave for a report of shots fired. A citizen observed a white SUV leaving the area after the shots were fired. The vehicle was located in the area and officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. The vehicle fled, and a KDPS officer was able to deploy spikes to safely deflate the tires. Two occupants fled the vehicle on foot near the intersection of Sprinkle and Kilgore.

Kalamazoo Public Safety K9 “Axl” responded. Axl conducted a track of both the suspects. One suspect was located hiding in the woods near the intersection. The other suspect was not located. A stolen loaded handgun and methamphetamine was located in the suspect vehicle. As a result of this investigation a 40 year old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting and obstructing.

Wanted Subject Arrested With Help From K9

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday December 11th at 7:10 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of Adams St for a family disturbance. Upon arrival it was learned that one of the involved suspects had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The suspect, fled out a kitchen window and into the Oakwood neighborhood.

Kalamazoo Public Safety K9 “Nero” was called in to assist with his handler PSO Pittelkow. Nero is the most senior K-9 with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and has been with the department for over 7 years. Nero conducted a track of the suspect, and located him hiding on the roof of a detached garage. The suspect, a 28 year old male from Kalamazoo was taken into police custody without incident. He was lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail for outstanding warrants, with additional charges pending for resisting & obstructing a police officer.

Reckless Discharge/CCW

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Monday, December 9th, 2019 at approximately 10:45pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 200 block of Pierce Ave for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and located several casings in the roadway. No victims were located. An aware citizen observed a white sedan leaving the area after the shots were fired. Officers conducted interviews on scene and were able to identify a suspect.

On Tuesday, December 10th, 2019 at approximately 1:15 am, Kalamazoo County Sherriff’s Department Deputies located the suspect in the 4900 block of Sprinkle Rd. The suspect had the firearm concealed on his person and taken into custody without incident.

As a result of this investigation a 29 year old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and an outstanding warrant. Additional charges are being sought.

400 Oak House Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On December 9, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Oak St. regarding a possible structure fire. When public safety officers arrived, there was smoke visible from the doorway of the residence.

The occupants of the residence including two adults and several children had self-evacuated immediately after the fire had formed. KDPS firefighters entered the residence and encountered fire within a room on the first floor. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to a single room of the residence.

The family was provided information for the Red Cross to assist with any needs. The circumstances surrounding this fire are believed to be cooking related.

Armed Robbery

Kalamazoo, MI:


On Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at approximately 4:30 pm a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officer was flagged down in the 500 block of N Burdick St for the report of an armed robbery of a cell phone. Officers responded to the area and located a subject matching the suspect description. The subject fled upon sight of officers, but was apprehended. The 14 year old Kalamazoo resident was in possession of the firearm, which turned out to be a “BB” gun that was not distinguishable from a real firearm. The cell phone was not recovered at this time.

KDPS Officers continued to investigate and identified a second suspect also a juvenile. This suspect, a 15 year old Kalamazoo resident was found inside a residence in the 1500 block of Krom St. The suspect attempted to escape arrest from a second story window; however he was apprehended after resisting officers. The stolen cell phone was also recovered inside the residence and returned to the owner.

Both juvenile males were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home pending charges related to the Armed Robbery and Resisting/Obstructing.
