Stolen pickup truck flees police and crashes

Kalamazoo, MI: 

On Saturday, May 28, 2022 at approximately 7:45 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers located a stolen pickup truck, that was reported stolen out of Eaton County.

A KDPS Officer initiated a traffic stop on the stolen truck near Wells Pl. and March St.  The vehicle fled from the officer and approximately 2 blocks away at the intersection of Lake and Mills St. the vehicle ran the red traffic light and struck a vehicle that was traveling southbound on Mills St.

After crashing, the driver of the stolen pickup truck fled the scene on foot but was captured quickly by police. The stolen pickup truck had two additional passengers.  The uninvolved vehicle that was struck was driven by a 33-year-old female.   

The passengers of the stolen truck are 21- and 24-year-old males.  Both passengers were transported to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. 

The driver, a 41-year-old Kalamazoo resident, is in custody for receiving and concealing stolen property (Stolen Truck) and Flee & Elude. He is currently being evaluated at an area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. It does not appear that the occupants of the stolen automobile were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the uninvolved vehicle is being treated an at area hospital with minor injuries.   The driver was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The intersection at Lake and Mills Street is closed at this time. Consumers Energy responded to repair a damaged utility pole and the KDPS Crime Lab is processing the scene. Motorist are asked to avoid the area.

Shots fired into Occupied Dwelling

On Tuesday August 4th at approximately 5:41pm, Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 3000 Blk of S. Burdick St. on reports of shots fired.  Responding officers found a tenant hiding in their apartment trying to avoid the gunfire, fortunately no one was stuck by the gunfire.  The evidence located on scene and through video surveillance depicts a deliberate act by a single male, who intentionally shoots into an apartment complex building. 

The KDPS Crime lab responded and processed the scene.  19 casings were recovered. The casings were from two different firearms with one of them being from an assault rifle.  The crime lab investigation revealed that 9 bullets had entered 4 different apartments within the building.  These rounds travelled through bedrooms, bathrooms, and one bullet was found lodged in a refrigerator. 

At this time no suspect has been identified.  The shooter was described as a male wearing a white t-shirt.  The shooter left in a gold colored impala with a spoiler.  Photographs of the vehicle as it left the scene have been attached to this report.

Subject arrested for on-line threats

On Saturday August 1st, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) was alerted by several members of the community regarding a threatening Facebook “Live” post. In the post the male subject was threatening violence on a Kalamazoo neighborhood in retaliation for a previous shooting that occurred the prior day.    

KDPS Detectives investigated this on-line post and were concerned about this threatening content and the fear that it had created in the community.  On Wednesday August 5th, Detectives were able to secure a warrant for this subject’s arrest related to the on-line threats. Later that same day the subject was arrested without incident.

This subject a 26-year-old Kalamazoo residence, Jhontae Jamison, was arraigned on Thursday August 6th for making terrorist threats and using a computer to commit a crime.  He is currently being lodged by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Office.

Shooting Suspect Arrested

Kalamazoo: On June 8th, 2020 at approximately 12:30 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the report of gun fire in the 100 block of W. Vine Street.  Officer’s arrived and located a victim in the area suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, a 33-year-old Kalamazoo resident was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The Kalamazoo Metro SWAT team assisted officers in the continuation of this investigation in the 800 block of Stuart Street where a search warrant was executed. During the execution of the search warrant additional evidence was located. A suspect has been identified but no arrests have been made and the identity of the suspect is not being released at this time.

Kalamazoo:  The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division’s completed their investigation and an arrest warrant was obtained for a 23 year old Kalamazoo resident regarding the shooting that occurred on June 8th 2020 in the 100 blk of W. Vine St. 

Today, members of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Crime Reduction Team located and arrested the 23 year old male.  The male was arrested for Assault with intent to commit murder, and multiple weapons charges (Felon in Possession of Firearm & Felony Firearm). He was lodged at Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office Jail pending his arraignment.

Cell Phone Store Larceny

Kalamazoo, MI: On May 21st, 2020 just after 12:00pm Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 300 block of Drake Rd, T-Mobile, for a report of a theft.  Two male suspects and a female suspect entered the cell phone store and stole numerous cell phones that were on display while a second female suspect remained back with the vehicle.  No weapon was observed or threatened. The subjects then fled in an unknown direction in a grey colored Honda SUV.  The following is a description of the suspects and their vehicle.

Suspect #1:  dark skinned African American male 16-20 years old, approximately 5’6” in height, thin build, and short hair. He was last seen wearing a camouflage Nike hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a surgical mask.

Suspect #2:  dark skinned African American male, 16-20 years old approximately 5`6″, unknown build, wearing all dark clothing with his hood up and a surgical mask.

Suspect #3: dark skinned African American female, 16-20 years old, approximately 5`6″ in height, medium build. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants with shoulder length braids and a surgical mask.

Suspect #4:  white female, 16-20 years old, long black hair.  She was last seen wearing a white fitted t-shirt and blue jeans.  She remained in the rear of vehicle during the theft.

Suspect Vehicle:  Newer model Honda HR-V grey in color.
