Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI:  On August 26, 2019, at approximately 11:36 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 500-block of Elizabeth Street, for the report of a subject who had been shot. Public Safety officers located the scene, but the 57-year-old victim had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle.

The investigation is in its early stages at this point, and there is limited suspect information. The victim is currently in stable condition.

Subject Shot and Suspect Arrested

Kalamazoo, MI:  On August 16, 2019, at approximately 3:52 p.m., KDPS Officers responded to the 1000-block of Washington Ave regarding a subject shot. KDPS Officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.

KDPS Officers were able to quickly identify the suspect and secured a residence in the 900-block of Washington Ave. From this investigation, the suspect was arrested and the weapon used was recovered. The suspect a 26-year-old Kalamazoo resident was lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail on Felony Assault Charges.

Bank Robbery

Kalamazoo, MI: On August 16, 2019, Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 4100 block of Portage Street regarding the report of a bank robbery. Upon arrival the suspect had fled the area.

Witnesses reported that a black female around 40 years of age entered the bank wearing a mask and gloves. The female approached staff and requested that money be placed in a bag. A weapon was not implied or observed.

A K9 track was attempted however the suspect was not located.

Kalamazoo Public Safety Patrol, Criminal Investigations Division, and Forensic Lab are working to identify the suspect in this case.

Residential House Fire

Kalamazoo, MI:  On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at approximately 10:49 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety received a report of a structure fire in the 1800-block of Elder Street. First arriving officers observed flames coming from the rear of the residence and immediately began fire suppression measures. The fire was extinguished quickly. Two residents were able to escape the rapidly evolving fire. After initial fire suppression was completed, officers were able to rescue two dogs from the home. At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Suspect Arrested After Stabbing

Kalamazoo, MI:  On Tuesday, June 25th, 2019, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 900-block of James St., in reference to a subject who was stabbed. When officers arrived, they located the victim who reported a known subject stabbed him after a verbal altercation. The victim was transported to Bronson Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers located the suspect, who confessed to stabbing the victim. The suspect, a 40-year-old, Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for felonious assault.
