Kitchen Fire

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at about 11:57 am, officers responded to a possible structure fire in the 1100 block of Douglas. Officers saw smoke coming from inside the residence upon arrival. Officers were able to quickly identify the fire was in the kitchen and put the fire out within 10 minutes. The residents were home at the time of the fire and were able to get out safely. The fire is currently being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 4:45 P.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 4200 block of Arboretum Pkwy for a report of several gun shots.   

Officers arrived on scene and located a 21-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim is currently listed in stable condition.  At this time, the suspect has not been identified and the motive is unknown.

Kalamazoo Public Safety is diligently investigating this incident and remains committed to effectively addressing gun violence in our community.

Commercial Structure Fire

Commercial Structure Fire

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday, March 8th, 2023, at approximately 6:00 A.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 600 blk of
Gibson St. for a report of a structure fire. When KDPS officers arrived, smoke was observed coming from the commercial structure.   

KDPS officers entered the vacant building and were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes. The structure was vacant at time of the incident and no injuries occurred during this incident. 

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at approximately 3:35 P.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety heard several gunshots coming from the 700 block of North Westnedge.  Responding officers located a victim suffering from one non-life threatening gunshot wound.  Officers provided medical care and the victim was transported to a local hospital.  The victim is listed in stable condition.

Kalamazoo Public Safety is diligently investigating this incident and remains committed to effectively addressing gun violence in our community.

Structure Fire

On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at approximately 4:47 P.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 1400 block of North Edwards Street for a report of a home on fire.  When KDPS officers arrived, heavy smoke was observed coming from the second story and eaves of the home.

KDPS officers were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes.  The structure was occupied, but the residents were able to self-evacuate.  KDPS officers are currently on scene conducting overhaul. 

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind everyone to talk with family members about a fire escape plan and practice the plan twice a year.
