PRESS RELEASE

Multiple Stolen Vehicles and Firearms Recovered

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 25th 2022, at approximately 11:30PM, Public Safety Officers located a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Howard St and W Michigan Ave.  After a short pursuit, 4 occupants fled from the vehicle on foot.  With the assistance of a police K9, all 4 occupants were located and arrested.  Through the continued investigation, a second stolen vehicle was located and recovered along with three firearms affiliated with the arrested subjects.

Four juvenile suspects were arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Detention Facility on various felony charges.

PRESS RELEASE

Subject Shot

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 25th 2022, at approximately 01:30AM, Public Safety Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Phelps Ave for the report of someone who had been shot.  Officers located the victim suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound and not breathing.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The identity of the victim is currently being withheld as the incident is still under investigation and until family notifications have been made.

Kalamazoo Public Safety offers its condolences to the friends and families of the victim.

PRESS RELEASE

Shots Fired at Vehicle, Suspect in Custody

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 24th 2022, at approximately 07:30PM, Public Safety Officers were on a burglary complaint in the 4100 block of Jody Ln when nearby gun shots were heard by officers near the 4400 block of Lilac Ln.  Two individuals were observed running from the area and were chased by officers. 

A juvenile Kalamazoo resident was apprehended after a foot pursuit related to the shooting.  The firearm believed to have been used was also recovered.  A second involved suspect was not located however, Public Safety is following up on several leads to identify this person. There were no reported injuries related to the incident.

Vehicle Drives into Building

PRESS RELEASE

Vehicle Drives into Building

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 11th 2022 at approximately 2:45pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 1300 block of Ravine Rd for a vehicle that had driven into a business.  Responding Officers located the driver of the vehicle on scene and uninjured.  Elements of the Kalamazoo Public Safety Tech-Rescue-Team, a representative from the Fire Marshal’s office, and Kalamazoo City building inspectors responded to address any structural issues resulting from the collision.

A 36 yr old Iron Mountain MI resident is currently in custody.  There were no injuries resulting from the collision.

This incident is still currently under investigation. The business was not open at the time of the collision.

Carjacking, 3 suspects in custody

PRESS RELEASE

Carjacking; 3 suspects in custody

Kalamazoo, MI:

On March 9th 2022, at approximately 9:00PM, Public Safety Officers were flagged down by the victim of a carjacking in the 1200 block of Reed Ave.  The victims claimed that multiple juvenile suspects used firearms to steal their personal property and their vehicle.  The vehicle was located a short time later, unoccupied in the 700 block of Mills St.  A police K9 search led officers to the 1100 block of Fourth St and three juvenile suspects.  The three suspects were found with the victims’ property and were all arrested.

A search warrant was later executed at a near-by residence in connection with the carjacking.
