Gunfire Strikes Occupied Vehicle

Gunfire Strikes Occupied Vehicle

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Sunday, December 20, 2020 at approximately 8:41 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Howard St / S Westnedge Ave for a report a subject who had been shot. 

Upon officer’s arrival, they located the victim inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim, a 23-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.   

 The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident.

Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Firearm

Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of Firearm

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Saturday, December 19, 2020 at approximately 2:14 am, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of N Park Street.  During the traffic stop, officers observed open intoxicants inside the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm. 


The driver, a 34-year-old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and open intoxicants. A passenger in the vehicle, 31-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested on a valid felony warrant for drugs.  Both were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department Jail.

The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident.

Shot Fired During Car Jacking

SHOT FIRED DURING CAR JACKING

Kalamazoo, MI

On 11/30/2020, around 11:00 pm, a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer heard a gunshot and glass breaking in the 900 block of N Westnedge Ave. A short time later, a victim called 911 to report that a vehicle had been taken at gunpoint.  During the investigation it was learned that the victim had been sitting in a vehicle when the suspect, described as a black male wearing a red hoodie with a black face mask, approached the vehicle and threatened to shoot him.  One shot was reported to be fired into the vehicle.  The victim exited the vehicle and the suspect stole the vehicle and fled the area.

Officers located the victims’ vehicle a short time later and a KDPS K9 was used to attempt to locate the suspect.  The suspect was not known to the victim and was not located during the K9 track. Luckily, the victim in this incident was uninjured.
