Several homes struck by gunfire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at approximately 10:07 P.M., a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer was in the 200 block of Wall Street when gunshots were heard.  A traffic stop was conducted on an involved vehicle and the driver, an 18 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested on various weapon offenses and lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail.  Several homes were struck by the gunfire, but no one was injured.

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Saturday, January 14, 2023, at approximately 6:46 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to the 1000 block of N Church Street in reference to a shooting.   Upon officers’ arrival, 1 victim was located who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, a 35-year-old Kalamazoo resident was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and listed in stable condition.  No suspects have been identified.

Structure Fire

Structure Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Friday, January 13, 2023, at approximately 10:10 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded for a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of Douglas Ave.  Upon officers’ arrival, they located smoke and fire coming from the home.  The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.  There are no reported injuries.

The Kalamazoo Public Safety Fire Marshall is investigating the incident.

Carjacking suspects in custody after pursuit

Carjacking suspects in custody after pursuit

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Friday, November 25, 2022, at approximately 2:36 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers located a stolen vehicle that was occupied in the 100 block W Stockbridge Ave. The vehicle had been reported stolen at gunpoint to Kalamazoo Public Safety early in the morning.  When the officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, the driver fled in the vehicle and a pursuit was started. 

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck a street sign with the stolen vehicle losing control and came to a stop. The occupants attempted to flee on foot.  The driver, a 17-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was taken into custody at the vehicle.  The second suspect, a 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was taken into custody attempting to hid behind a house after fleeing on foot.

The victim of the carjacking was not injured during the incident.  Evidence of a 2nd carjacking was found on the suspects that had occurred on Thursday, November 24, 2022, in the 800 block of Clinton.  Both suspects were lodged at the juvenile home.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at approximately 10:48 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded for a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of Portage Street.  Upon officers’ arrival, they located heavy smoke and fire coming from the building  The fire was brought under control within 1 hour.  There are no reported injuries.

The Kalamazoo Public Safety Fire Marshall is investigating the incident.
