Felonious Assault leads to arrest and 3 handguns seized

Felonious Assault leads to arrest and 3 handguns seized

On Friday, April 9, 2021 at approximately 4:30 a.m. the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 100 block of E. Maple Street on a report of a felonious assault involving a handgun.  Officers arrived and located a group in the area.  The male described by the victim was located and was still in possession of a handgun on his person.  Officer’s searched in the area and located two additional handguns, which were seized.  A 29-year-old Kalamazoo resident was arrested for the felonious assault and other weapons offenses.  Three handguns were seized during this investigation.

Residential Structure Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Thursday, March 18, 2021 at approximately 8:45 P.M, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded for a report of a residential apartment structure fire in the 300 block of Candlewyke Dr.  When KDPS Officers arrived, heavy smoke was scene coming from the building. The fire was contained to several apartments within the building.


Public Safety Officers were able to bring the fire under control within 90 minutes.  No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Residential Structure Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Sunday, March 7, 2021 at approximately 6:24 P.M, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded for a report of a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Rose Place.  When KDPS Officers arrived, flames were observed coming from the rear of the home.


Public Safety Officers were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes.  No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Fire at homeless encampment

Fire at homeless encampment

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Friday, February 12, 2021 at approximately 7:04 P.M, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded for a report of tent on fire at the homeless encampment at Mills / Oneil.  When KDPS Officers arrived, flames were observed coming from several tents near the river.


Public Safety Officers were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.  No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.

Structure Fire

Structure Fire

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at approximately 5:41 P.M, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 2600 block of Alta Vista Ave for a report of a structure fire.  Upon officer’s arrival, they located heavy fire and smoke coming from the attached garage of the home. 

Public Safety Officers were able to bring the fire under control within 15 minutes and remained on scene for about 2 hours.  The occupants were home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
