Homicide Investigation

On September 11, 2022, at approximately 03:03 a.m. a Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer was in the 900 block of Princeton when he reported hearing several shots fired. The officer went to the area he heard the shots coming from and located a victim. The victim, a 53-year-old Kalamazoo resident, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Life saving measures were immediately started. The victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. 

The investigation is ongoing.

STRUCTURE FIRE

On Saturday, September 3, 2022, at approximately 08:17 pm PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 900 block of E Cork St. for a structure fire. It was reported that smoke and flames were showing from the rear of the structure.

KDPS officers were able to the bring the fire under control within 10 minutes. The business was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries occurred during this incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s Office.

600 Block of Portage: Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Saturday, September 03, 2022, at approximately 01:56 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were sent to the 600 block of Portage to investigate multiple reports of shots fired.

As officers were responding to investigate the shots fired call, information was received that a subject arrived at a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, a 28-year-old Kalamazoo resident, sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. He is currently being treated for his injuries and listed in critical condition.

Evidence was collected at the scene. No suspect information is available at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

1000 Block of Hotop Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Friday, September 02, 2022, at approximately 10:19 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were sent to the 1000 block of Hotop to investigate multiple reports of shots fired.

As officers were responding to investigate the shots fired call, a call came in for a subject shot in the 1000 block of Bridge. Officers contacted the male victim, an 18-year-old Kalamazoo resident. The victim sustained multiple life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where his is listed in critical condition.

No suspect information is available currently. The investigation is on going.

Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Friday, September 02, 2022, at approximately 8:02 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were sent to the 500 block of Trimble to investigate a report of shots fired.

As officers were responding to the area for the shots fired call, a call came in for a subject shot in the 1800 block of Charles. Officers contacted the male victim, a 37-year-old Kalamazoo resident. The victim sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated at a local hospital.

No suspect information is available currently.
