Firearms and Drugs Recovered During Traffic Stop

Firearms and Drugs Recovered During Traffic Stop

Kalamazoo, Michigan: On Monday, April 30, 2018, at approximately 9:15p.m. a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1000 block Hays Park for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop officers located marijuana concealed in the dashboard of the vehicle and two firearms. The two firearms were later determined to be stolen from the Kalamazoo and Saginaw areas.

The driver of the vehicle, a 21 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, carrying a concealed firearm, receiving and concealing a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. A 17 year old passenger and Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm, and receiving and concealing a stolen firearm. The third occupant in the vehicle, a 20 year old Kalamazoo resident, was arrested for an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

Car Jacking 1200 blk of Hays Park

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday April 29, 2018 at approximately 10:35 PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1200 block of Hays Park in reference to a vehicle that was just stolen at gunpoint.

When officers arrived contact was made with two victims who reported two unknown subjects approached them in the alleyway attempting to sell them marijuana. When the victims refused to purchase the drugs one of the suspects produced a handgun and fired a single gunshot into the ground. The subject who fired the gun fled on foot from the scene. The second subject stole the victim’s vehicle and left the area. The stolen vehicle was quickly located by officers. After a brief vehicle pursuit, the suspect was involved in a minor crash and then fled on foot. Portage Department of Public Safety K9 unit responded and attempted a track however the suspect was not located.

The suspect who fired the handgun was described as a light skinned black male with short brown curly hair. This subject is approximately 6 ft tall wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The second subject who fled from the stolen car was described as a dark skinned black male approximately 5’8″ – 5’10″ with his hair worn in dreads. He was further described as wearing a black sweatshirt and black sweat pants. Both suspects are described as being in there 20’s.

S Burdick Street House Fire

HOUSE FIRE

 

Kalamazoo, MI: Saturday, April 7, 2018 at approximately 143 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of S Burdick. Upon arrival, there was heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the residence and had made it into the attic. An exterior attack with the ladder truck knocked the flames down which allowed an interior team to gain entry. Due to the fire being in the attic; various voids; and wind, it took approximately 4 hours to extinguish.

 

A resident was home at the time of the fire and able to escape with his pets safely. No firefighters were injured and the Red Cross was notified.

House Fire

HOUSE FIRE

 

Kalamazoo, MI: Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at approximately 1228 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a structure fire in the 1800 block of High Street. Upon arrival, there was fire coming out of the front window and heavy smoke coming out of the back of the residence. A quick exterior attack knocked the flames down while the interior attack team entered the residence to put it out completely. The residence suffered heavy smoke damage.

 

The residents were not home at the time and no firefighters were injured. The Red Cross was notified as well.
