HOUSE FIRE

Date:  Friday, February 3, 2023

Address:  150 E. Crosstown Parkway, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Kalamazoo, MI: Friday, February 3, 2023, at approximately 0103 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Fenwick Place. Upon arrival, there was fire coming from the ground floor of the home. A quick exterior attack knocked the fire down. The home is currently vacant.

There are no reported injuries to citizens or firefighters. The fire is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office.

Firearms Recovered

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Monday, January 23, 2023, at approximately 1:22 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were addressing quality of life issues in the 600 blk of E Michigan. A car was stopped for a traffic violation and contact was made with the vehicle’s occupants.

As contact was made with the occupants, a AK Pistol was seen, laying in plain view on the backseat. As the investigation continued, a second gun was located and had been reported stolen. This gun would normally be a semi-automatic weapon, but it was converted to a fully automatic weapon. The occupants in the vehicle were not Kalamazoo residents.

The driver was arrested and lodged for not having a driver’s license. A passenger in the car was arrested and lodged for multiple felony charges.

Car vs Pedestrian Accident

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at approximately 7:11 pm, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to the area of Kalamazoo Avenue and N Burdick St to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived at the area and located a 61-year-old Kalamazoo resident, with apparent injuries, down in the roadway. Officers rendered medical aid to the pedestrian on scene, and the patient was transported to a local hospital. The involved driver, also a Kalamazoo resident, remained at the scene of the accident. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. The patient is currently listed in critical condition and the investigation is ongoing.

Accident and Road Closure

Date:  November 18, 2022

Address:  150 E. Crosstown Pkwy. Suite A, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Thursday, November 17, 2022, at approximately 10:19 p.m. hours, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a train vs pedestrian accident. The accident resulted in the death of a 44-year-old, male, Kalamazoo resident. The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of the next of kin.

The areas of north and south bound Pitcher; north and south bound Edwards, between Kalamazoo and Willard are open for travel.

The areas of north and south bound Pitcher; north and south bound Edwards, between Kalamazoo and Willard are closed. Please seek an alternate route of travel. A second News Release will be sent out when these areas are open for travel.
