Mobile Nuisance Party Enforcement

Mobile Nuisance Party Enforcement

Kalamazoo, MI: On Saturday, June 18, 2022, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) conducted a directed patrol by the request of business owners to reduce the large gatherings and illegal activities that commonly take place during Mobile Nuisance Parties at local businesses in the City.

During the enforcement, officers encountered crowds in the 2900 block of S. Howard that were engaged in Mobile Nuisance Party activities including illegal firearm possession, fighting, open intoxicants, littering, loud music, and dancing on cars. 

As a result of this enforcement officers made the following arrests: 

23-year-old male, Kalamazoo resident: Carrying concealed weapon in an Auto (firearm), and possession of a un-registered firearm.

40-year-old male, Kalamazoo resident: Disorderly conduct

Both adult males were arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.

Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, June 11th, 2022, at approximately 1025 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 800 block of Riverview for a report of over 40 shots fired in the area. While officers were enroute it was reported there was a subject who had been shot and that the suspects fled the area in vehicles.

When officers arrived, they located the victim, a 30-year-old Kalamazoo resident. The victim had been shot one time in the leg; he was transported to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Numerous casings were collected as well as other evidence. The suspect has not been identified at this time.

Road Closure

Kalamazoo, MI: Friday, May 20, 2022, at approximately 730 pm, Pitcher Street between Lovell and South will be shut down due to a water main break. Please seek an alternate route of travel.

Shooting Investigation

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, at approximately 0140 AM, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Florence and Burrell in reference to a subject that had been shot. When officers arrived, they located the victim, a 52-year-old Kalamazoo resident. The victim had been shot one time in the back; he was transported to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

The suspect fled prior to police arrival and has not been identified. The suspect is described as an unknown male; wearing a black mask; a Nike jacket with the Nike symbol on the left shoulder; gray jeans; and black shoes.

Firearms Recovered From Juveniles

Kalamazoo, Michigan:  On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at approximately 2:05p.m.  Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Riverview Drive regarding 3 subjects with guns.  Officers arrived on scene and contacted the three subjects. The three suspects, two 15-year old’s and one 17-year-old, are all Kalamazoo residents.

Upon contacting one of the 15-year-olds and the 17-year-old, officers confiscated two guns. The second 15-year-old fled on foot and was caught a short distance away. He discarded a gun as he was running away.

Officers confiscated an AR Pistol; a .556 drum magazine; and two handguns. All three juveniles were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home for weapons charges.
