Funeral services for PSO Christian Smith

October 10, 2022 by Chuck Mason

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is deeply saddened by the death of Public Safety Officer (PSO) Christian Smith, who passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones following a battle with leukemia.

Christian, age 32, was a committed and loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend to all who had a chance to know and love him. Christian was a 6-year veteran of KDPS, where he served as a police officer, firefighter, field training officer, K9 handler, and drug investigator. He was a selfless public servant who was dedicated to providing exceptional services to the community. His contributions to the community were far reaching and his legacy is not soon forgotten. Prior to joining KDPS, PSO Smith valiantly served in the United States Marine Corps.

KDPS, the City of Kalamazoo, and first responders across Michigan mourn the loss of PSO Smith. We extend our deepest sympathies to Christian’s loved ones as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.

PSO Smith’s Celebration of Life ceremony, which is open to the public, is scheduled for Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. and will occur at Valley Family Church, 2500 Vincent Avenue, Portage, MI 49024.
