Stolen Firearms and Drug Seizure

Kalamazoo, MI: On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at approximately 10:50 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 200 blk of W. Maple St. to arrest a 29 year old Kalamazoo resident on his parole absconder warrant.

When officers made contact at a residence in the 200 blk of W. Maple St, officers located four subjects sitting in a vehicle parked in the driveway. During the course of the investigation officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located two firearms (one stolen) and a quantity of methamphetamine. The wanted parole absconder was also located at the residence and was arrested on his warrant. Officers executed a search warrant on the residence and located additional firearms and drugs. In total four adult Kalamazoo men were arrested on various weapon, drugs charges, and warrants.

Whites Rd Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Wednesday, June 20th 2018, at approximately 1:39 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were dispatched 628 Whites for reports of a subject that had been shot. While officers were enroute to the address the shooting victim was transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition. The victim was identified as a 21 year old Portage resident.

The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident. The investigation is in its early stages at this point and there is limited suspect information.

Roosevelt Apartment Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, June 9th 2018 around 4:27 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 1300 block of E Main for reports of a subject who had been shot near Roosevelt Apartments. The victim has been identified as a 25 year old Kalamazoo resident who was suffering a gunshot wound to his stomach. The victim had been transported to Borgess Hospital for his injuries. His medical condition is unknown at this time.

The Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident. This investigation is in its early stages at this point and no suspect information is known.

Traffic Accident

Traffic Accident

Kalamazoo, MI: Friday, June 9, 2017 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the intersection of S. Westnedge and Walnut on the report of a rollover two car traffic accident. One of the vehicles was traveling southbound while the other was westbound. A collision occurred in the middle of the intersection causing the minivan to go up on its side. Officers arrived within moments. All involved occupants were found outside of their vehicles alert, yet shaken up with apparent minor injuries. Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind drivers and passengers alike to always use their seatbelts.

Neighborhood Canvass Leads to Gas Leak and Crime Scene

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 22, 2017 at approximately 0745hrs, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the area of 600 block of Bosker St in reference to the report of shots fired. Minutes later, another caller in the 500 block of Lulu St reported their vehicle and shed had been damaged by gunfire.  While canvassing the neighborhood and speaking to area residents, officers learned there was an un-reported volley of gunfire heard in the area of the 600 Block of W Prouty St about 15 minutes earlier.

Officers quickly responded to the area of 600 block of W Prouty St where they encountered the strong smell of natural gas. An investigation revealed that a gas meter was struck by a bullet causing the leak. The gas meter was turned off and Officers discovered several more bullets holes on the exterior of the residence.

It is believed that each incident is related. At this time, there have been no reported injuries. The safety of the Kalamazoo Community is paramount.
