Officers Investigate Stolen Vehicle

Officers Investigate Stolen Vehicle  

Kalamazoo, MI:

            On Friday February 25th, 2022 at approximately 2:33 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers located a stolen vehicle near Bridge St and Riverview Ave in the City of Kalamazoo.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle and it fled from Officers. Officers initiated a pursuit as the stolen vehicle was also suspected of casing a local business the day prior.

During the pursuit, the stolen vehicle crashed into a utility pole near Scudder Ct on Parsons St. All three occupants fled on foot and were taken into custody after a short foot chase.

One of the occupants was in possession of a loaded handgun which was later determined to be stolen from Three Rivers Mi. Officers located several pieces of evidence that are connected to mail theft and evidence of other property crimes from around the Kalamazoo Area.    

One adult suspect was arrested for Fleeing and Eluding and Possessing a Stolen Vehicle. He is being held at Kalamazoo County Jail.

One juvenile offender was arrested for Weapons Charges and Resisting Officers. He is being held at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. The third occupant is a juvenile and was released to a parent.

This case is ongoing and additional charges will be sought for the mail / property theft.

Officers Investigate Shooting

Officers Investigate Shooting

Kalamazoo, MI:

            On Wednesday February 9th, 2022 at approximately 1:19 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers responded to the area of Adelaide St and Alcott St for a report of shots being fired.

Several witnesses called 911 reporting the incident and gave dispatchers a description of an involved vehicle. Minutes later Officers were called to the 400 blk of Ranney St for a report of a male struck by gunfire.

Once on scene, Officers were able to determine that the victim on Ranney St was struck by gunfire from Adelaide St.  

The victim, a 24-year-old Kalamazoo man, was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.   

The suspect is currently unknown and Officers with the Kalamazoo Dept of Public Safety are currently investigating the incident.

Armed Robbery and Assault Causing Great Bodily Harm

Armed Robbery and Assault Causing Great Bodily Harm

Kalamazoo, MI: 

On Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021 at approximately 3:55 p.m., Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the report of a subject who was stabbed in 800 blk of S. Westnedge St.

Officers arrived on scene and were directed a block over to the area of 800 blk of S. Park St. Officers located an adult male victim who had a severe laceration to his face. Officers immediately rendered aid and started questioning him about what happened.

During a canvass, Officers learned that there was a second adult male victim in the 800 blk of S. Westnedge. Officers quickly rendered aid to this victim and additional medical attention was sought.   

The suspect, a 35- year-old Kalamazoo resident, was taken into custody for armed robbery and felonious assault causing great bodily harm.

This incident is currently being investigated by Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.

Suspect Identified Who Made Threats to Local High School

Suspect Identified Who Made Threats to Local High School

Kalamazoo, MI: 

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and Kalamazoo Public Schools worked collaboratively regarding two social media threats targeting Loy Norrix High School.

These threats were found to be false after emergency responders and school staff searched extensively to confirm that no valid threat existed.

KDPS detectives were able to identify and locate the source of the threats. The suspect is a Loy Norrix student who admitted to creating the two threats and posting them on social media. The student will face consequences per the KPS Student Code of Conduct and Michigan state law.

Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

  Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Kalamazoo, MI: 

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and FBI have been investigating two bank robberies that had recently occurred in the City of Kalamazoo. The first one occurred on October 27th, 2021, when a male subject entered the Chase Bank, located at 141 E. Michigan at 10:20 am demanding money while indicating that he had a gun. The subject fled the area on foot after receiving a quantity of cash. Two days later, on October 29th, at 4:13pm, the same suspect entered the Community Promise Credit Union located at 1313 Portage Road, threatened tellers that he had bombs and then demanded money. The suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

During the joint investigation, the suspect was identified, and investigators learned that he was in custody in Steuben County Indiana on unrelated charges. Investigators traveled to Indiana and were able to gain a confession and seize additional evidence linking the suspect to the crimes. Charges were requested for the robberies and, today, November 18, 2021, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office issued two charges of Bank Robbery. The 35-year-old Kalamazoo man will be arraigned on Friday, November 19th, here in Kalamazoo County.
