Man struck by gunfire in Kalamazoo

Man struck by gunfire in Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, MI:

On May 14, 2021 at approximately 8:40 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 100 block of E Paterson for a report of shots fired. The first officers on scene located a man suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim, a 26-year-old man from Mississippi, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The motive for the shooting is unknown, and there is no suspect description available. A dark sedan, possibly a Chrysler 300, was seen leaving the area immediately following the shooting, and is believed to have been involved.

Fatal shooting investigation, 3800 E Cork St

Fatal shooting investigation, 3800 E Cork St

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at approximately 10:03 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 3800 block of E Cork St for a report of shots fired. First arriving officers located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Life saving efforts were performed on scene. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he died as a result of his injuries. The victim is a 23-year-old man from Kalamazoo. His identity is not being released at this time.

As of this time, the suspect has not been located.

Kalamazoo Public Safety responds to two shootings

Kalamazoo Public Safety responds to two shootings

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 26th, 2021 at approximately 10:52 pm, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 2200 block of Inverness Lane for a report of several shots fired. First arriving officers located one victim, a 16 year old male from Kalamazoo, suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. The suspects are described as three black male juveniles. They were last seen fleeing north on foot from the area. Public Safety officers searched the area for the suspects, but they were not located.

On April 27th, 2021 at approximately 12:01 am, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 900 block of Fairbanks Avenue for another report of several shots fired. An unknown suspect had fired several rounds into two separate homes in that area. The two homes were occupied by a total of at least 5 different people, including several minor children. Nobody was struck by the gunfire. There is no suspect information available.

Kalamazoo Public Safety responds to fatal traffic crash

KDPS responds to fatal traffic crash

Kalamazoo, MI:

On April 23rd, 2021 at approximately 11:49 pm, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 600 block of E Michigan regarding a traffic crash involving a car and a motorcycle. First arriving officers located the motorcycle driver, a 26-year-old Kalamazoo man, unconscious and not breathing. Life saving efforts were performed on scene. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is not being released at this time.

The occupants of the other involved vehicle fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival. As of this time, they have not been located.

Homicide investigation update, Arrest made, Victim identified

Homicide Investigation Update

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Thursday, February 25th, 2021, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 4500 block of West Main St for several reports of shots fired. Responding officers located a 64-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The man passed away as a result of his injuries. The victim has been identified as Michael Vines of Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety expresses its sincerest condolences to the  family and friends of Mr. Vines.

Additionally, Public Safety detectives have been investigating the incident, and an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time, however he was identified as a 30-year-old male from Vandalia, MI. Preliminary information suggests that the suspect and victim were acquainted, and it is a domestic-related homicide.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is actively investigating this incident.
