Homicide investigation update, Arrest made, Victim identified

Homicide Investigation Update

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Thursday, February 25th, 2021, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 4500 block of West Main St for several reports of shots fired. Responding officers located a 64-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The man passed away as a result of his injuries. The victim has been identified as Michael Vines of Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety expresses its sincerest condolences to the  family and friends of Mr. Vines.

Additionally, Public Safety detectives have been investigating the incident, and an arrest has been made in connection with the homicide. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time, however he was identified as a 30-year-old male from Vandalia, MI. Preliminary information suggests that the suspect and victim were acquainted, and it is a domestic-related homicide.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is actively investigating this incident.

House fire in Kalamazoo

House fire in Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo, MI:

On February 10th, at approximately 7:23 am, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a house fire in the 400 block of Clinton Avenue. First arriving officers encountered heavy flames and smoke pouring from the side of the home. Three adults and a dog were able to escape from the home. Public Safety officers were able to bring the fire under control after about one hour, but remained on scene for another two hours conducting extensive overhaul operations. The fire is currently under investigation.

Fatal shooting investigated on New Year’s Day

On January 1st, 2021 at approximately 4:02 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 1300 block of Fox Ridge Drive regarding a report of a shots fired inside a building. First arriving officers located a 21 year old man suffering from gunshot wounds. KDPS officers provided aid to the man, but he succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives responded to the scene, and are currently investigating the incident. As of this time, no arrests have been made.
