KDPS responds to shooting
On Thursday, May 18, public safety officers responded to the calls of a shooting victim on the 1400 block of Fox Ridge Dr. at 10:11 p.m.
Upon arrival officers found 42-year-old Tyquincy Tymain McFerrin with a gunshot wound and rendered immediate aid. Mcferrin was taken to Bronson Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety wishes to extend its sincerest sympathies and condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Mcferrin.

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, at approximately 8:59 p.m., Kalamazoo Deptartment of Public Safety officers were dispatched to the area of Bridge Street and Gilbert Avenue regarding several calls for shots fired. Shortly after, a gunshot victim arrived at a local hospital. The nineteen year old Kalamazoo resident had been shot in the head. Officers scoured the area and located the scene of the shooting. The gunshot victim is in grave condition and not expected to survive.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and is asking for assistance from the public.

Update:
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Omarre Brishon Williams, who was killed by gunfire. Because Mr. Williams did not immediately succumb to his injuries, the family was able to work with Gift of Life Michigan. Gift of Life Michigan is an organization that arranges organ and tissue donations from a deceased person to those in need. The family expressed an interest that something positive come from this tragedy. Organ and tissue donation saves lives and enhances the quality of life for many.
The investigation into Mr. Williams murder is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division. Detectives are diligently pursuing leads and working towards bringing those responsible before the court to answer for their crimes. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at 269-337-8139. We cannot solve this senseless killing without the assistance of those in the community, who have knowledge of the case, to come forward. Shots fired leads to pursuit, suspect arrested.
Kalamazoo, MI:
On April 17th, 2023, at approximately 3:22 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to the 1500 block of Fox Ridge Drive for a report of multiple shots fired. First arriving officers learned that a male suspect had fired a handgun at two males. Fortunately, there were no injuries. Witnesses indicated that the suspect left the area in a vehicle.
Officers checking the area located and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, which fled. After a brief pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into an uninvolved vehicle at the intersection of N Park St and W North St. The suspect was then taken into custody. He suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the other involved vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect, an 18-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was arrested for assault with intent to commit murder, fleeing and eluding, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Wanted subject arrested at local hospital
Kalamazoo, MI:
On March 30th, 2023, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers and Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to take a wanted subject into custody. The suspect, a 32-year-old male fled in a vehicle and evaded officers. A few minutes later, the suspect vehicle was located near Bronson Hospital. With the help of hospital security, it was determined that the suspect had entered the hospital on foot. Within approximately 15 minutes, the suspect was located inside the hospital and taken into custody without further resistance.

On March 22nd, 2023, at approximately 11:04 a.m., a man suffering from a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital. After investigating the incident, public safety officers located the scene of the shooting in the 1300 block of Fox Ridge Drive. The victim, a 19-year-old man from Kalamazoo, suffered a single gunshot wound. His condition is currently listed as stable. As of this time, the suspect has not been identified and the motive is unknown.
