CRT/KVET Seize Several Pounds of Crystal Meth and 3 Guns

Kalamazoo, MI:

On May 5, 2022, Kalamazoo Public Safety’s Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) conducted a joint operation with the Kalamazoo Metro – SWAT Team in the 1500 block of Krom Avenue. Investigators were seeking to seize drugs and guns from a violent offender. The teams executed a signed search warrant and secured the residence without incident. During the search, Investigators seized two rifles, one handgun, over $20,000 in US Currency, and several pounds of crystal meth. Investigators arrested an adult male in connection to this ongoing investigation.

15-year-old struck by gunfire

15-year-old struck by gunfire

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, at 12:59 A.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to the 1200 block of James Street for reports of shots fired.  Upon officers’ arrival, they located evidence of a shooting however no victim or suspect was located.

At approximately 2:30 A.M., a 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound from the shooting on James Street.  He was treated for his injuries and is listed in stable condition.  Currently there is no suspect and the incident is under investigation.

Firearm recovered

Firearm recovered

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Monday, May 2, 2022, at approximately 10:22 P.M., Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officers on a directed patrol in the 700 block of Douglas Ave for quality-of-life concerns.  During the directed patrol, officers observed a group of  subjects gambling in front of a business.  When officers went to address the group, one suspect discarded a handgun.  A second suspect was also found to be in possession of a handgun.  A third suspect was found to be in possession of illegal narcotics.     

The suspects, a 34-year-old, 21-year-old, and 37-year-old, all Kalamazoo residents, were arrested on various drug and weapon charges.

Pedestrian hit by vehicle

Pedestrian hit by vehicle

Kalamazoo, Michigan:

On Friday, April 29, 2022, at approximately 7:41 P.M., Kalamazoo Public Safety Department responded for a report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.  Upon officers’ arrival, they found that the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit the pedestrian who was on the sidewalk. 

Public Safety Officers performed first aid on the victim.  The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is listed in serious condition.  Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.  The crash is still under investigation.

HOUSE FIRE

Kalamazoo, MI: On Friday, April 29, 2022, at approximately 1230 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a structure fire in the 1800 block of Shirelane. Upon arrival, there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the front of the residence. The fire was initially knocked down from the exterior which allowed an interior team to gain entry. The fire was brought under control in under 10 minutes.

A family of three was displaced, however the Red Cross was able to provide housing. There were no injuries to the residents or firefighters. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
