Kalamazoo, MI: On March 22, 2019 at approximately 1:02 am Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were monitoring the 700 block of Douglas due to a recent increase in gun violence in the area. While monitoring the area, Public Safety officers identified a male that was leaving the area in a vehicle who had a warrant for his arrest. As the vehicle pulled out of the area, officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and arrested the driver for his warrant. Upon placing the driver into custody, officers also saw a handgun in the vehicle and seized it. The driver, a 24 year old Kalamazoo resident, did not have a valid CPL and was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon as well as the outstanding warrant. Kalamazoo, MI: On March 19, 2019 at approximately 10:40 pm Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 700 block of Douglas Ave after receiving calls for shots fired in the area. Public Safety officers canvassed the area and were able to locate 2 houses in the neighborhood that had been hit by gunfire. Officers checked with the occupants of the residences hit and confirmed no one had been injured from the shots. Approximately 2 hours later, officers responded to the 1500 block of Fox Ridge and were able to positively identify and arrest one of the suspects involved with the shots fired. As the investigation continued, officers searched 2 associated residences and located a loaded firearm. A 24 year old male was arrested on several felony charges related to the incident. Kalamazoo, MI: Shortly after 10:00 pm on March 12, 2019, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers were dispatched on a report of several shots fired in the area of W North St and Douglas Ave in the City of Kalamazoo. The first responding Public Safety Officer checked a business parking lot in the 700-block of Douglas and located a male who stated that his vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
During this investigation it was learned that the male’s 12-year-old grandchild was seated in the vehicle during the time the shots were fired. The bullet that penetrated the vehicle was less than a foot from where the child had been sitting. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident.
According to witness statements, the shooter was described as an average build black male wearing a black hoodie and a black ball cap. A K9 track was attempted; however, a suspect was not located.
Several pieces of evidence were collected by a Crime Lab Technician on scene.

Kalamazoo, MI: At approximately 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Kalamazoo for a report of shots fired. An officer was shot and is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries. There is no active threat to the community. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated at this time.
A press conference will be held at 1600 hours at KDPS Headquarters, located at 150 E. Crosstown Parkway, Suite A, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. No further information will be released until after the press conference.

Vehicles flees, suspect arrested after K-9 track
Kalamazoo, MI: On March 10th, 2019 at about 5:30AM an officer from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Cobb and Elizabeth that was occupied by a wanted subject. The vehicle initial fled from officers, who did not pursue the vehicle. The vehicle was located in a nearby parking lot with the occupants fleeing on foot. After a short foot pursuit, the driver was arrested on several felony charges. The driver was identified as a 23 year old Kalamazoo man.
A perimeter was established and police K9 Bach was deployed to conduct a track for the wanted passenger. The second suspect was located after a short K-9 track hiding from officers in a residential area. He was arrested without incident on 4 outstanding warrants. The wanted subject is a 19 year old Kalamazoo man.
Both suspects were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on a variety of warrants and charges related to the incident.
This is the second day in a row that Police K-9 Bach (Pictured) has been successful in tracking suspects down resulting in quick apprehensions.
