SWAT

Kalamazoo Metropolitan SWAT (KM-SWAT) is a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of members from Kalamazoo Public Safety, Portage Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office and Kalamazoo Township Police. Tactical paramedics are provided by Life EMS. KM-SWAT is overseen by a regional board and is divided into four separate teams: Entry, Precision Long Rifle, Crisis Negotiations and Tactical Medics.

The mission of KM- SWAT is to provide a highly trained unit to respond to and resolve critical and dangerous incidents exceeding the normal capabilities of law enforcement units within Kalamazoo County. KM-SWAT will respond when traditional police methods and operations may not successfully resolve the situation without exposing the participants to undue risk.

The goal of KM-SWAT is to resolve such incidents, whenever possible, in a coordinated manner with the least amount of risk and vulnerability to team members, citizens, victims, perpetrators, and other involved parties.
