Kalamazoo, MI:

On Tuesday May 23, 2023, Detectives from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a report made by Children’s Protective Services. The CPS Social Worker reported that a two-month-old infant was being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries at an area hospital. Detectives conducted several interviews with witnesses over the course of several hours.

The investigation led Detectives to execute a search warrant in the 700 block of Garland Avenue in the City of Kalamazoo. Detectives discovered evidence in the residence related to the ongoing investigation. A person of interest was then taken into custody.

The investigation into the abuse and neglect of the infant is ongoing. The infant remains hospitalized and additional steps have been taken to ensure the infant’s safety. Witnesses and those with information are asked to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 269-337-8139. The community can also provide information anonymously through Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
