Kalamazoo, MI: Saturday, April 22, 2023, at approximately 1137 p.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to a structure fire in the 1800 blk of State Street. Upon arrival, there was fire and smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom. A quick exterior attack knocked the flames down which allowed an interior team to gain entry. An aggressive interior attack put the fire out within 10 min.
The fire damage was contained to the bedroom and the attic space directly above it. Two residents were able to escape uninjured. No firefighters were injured, and the Red Cross was notified. The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office.
