On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at about 2:58 pm, officers responded for a fire in the 3600 block of W Michigan Ave. When officers arrived on scene, they located a large vacant commercial building with smoke coming from the 2nd story on the south side of the building. Fire crews utilized a water deck gun on the initial exterior attack to knock down the fire and transitioned to an interior attack to fully extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. This building had been deemed vacant prior to this incident and no one was located inside. The fire is currently under investigation through the Fire Marshall’s office.
