PRESS RELEASE

Three firearms seized

Kalamazoo, MI:

On January 1st, 2023 Kalamazoo Public Safety was monitoring a large gathering in the 2900 block of W Michigan Ave.  A vehicle was observed leaving the area with an equipment violation and was stopped near Kendall Ave and Howard St.  During the traffic stop a firearm was observed inside the vehicle and seized in the course of the investigation.

While this traffic stop was occurring, multiple gun shots were reported in the 2700 block of W Michigan Ave.  Officers responded and while contacting an occupied vehicle, a firearm was observed in the backseat.  The backseat passenger initially disobeyed lawful orders from officers and grabbed the pistol, attempting to hide it.  Officers were able to arrest this subject and secure the firearm safely.  During this investigation, two additional firearms were located inside the vehicle with the other passengers. A female Kalamazoo resident was released on scene while a 22 year old Portage resident and 38 year old Kalamazoo resident were arrested on weapons charges.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269)488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269)343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
