Kalamazoo, MI:

On Saturday, November 19, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to reports of a breaking and entering at a business in the 2100 block of South Burdick.

Responding officers flooded the area as a K-9 track was conducted.  The K-9 led directly to a residence in the immediate area of the business.  Officers converged on the home and attempted contact.  Several occupants could be seen attempting to hide and turn off lights during this contact.

Officers secured the home from the exterior and applied for a search warrant.  Officers gave approximately three hours of loudspeaker announcements for the occupants to exit the home, these directions were not followed by the occupants. Upon issuance of the warrant officers made entry into the home.

Inside the home, four suspects were contacted, identified, and apprehended or arrested.  One of the suspects was located hiding in the attic of the home.  Evidence related to this incident was also recovered which included, clothing worn by the suspects, tools used to force entry to the business, and property that was stolen from the business.

Two individuals identified as suspects were arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo Country Jail where they await arraignment on charges of breaking and entering.

Two additional juvenile suspects were apprehended and turned over to their guardians.  Charges will be submitted to the Kalamazoo Country Prosecutor’s Office for their review.

Anyone having any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 488-8911 or Silent Observer at 343-2100 / kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
