On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at approximately 4:47 P.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 1400 block of North Edwards Street for a report of a home on fire. When KDPS officers arrived, heavy smoke was observed coming from the second story and eaves of the home.
KDPS officers were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes. The structure was occupied, but the residents were able to self-evacuate. KDPS officers are currently on scene conducting overhaul.
The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
Kalamazoo Public Safety would like to remind everyone to talk with family members about a fire escape plan and practice the plan twice a year.
