Kalamazoo, MI:

****UPDATE: As of 4:45pm, South Westnedge is now open to southbound traffic. There is a temporary lane closure but this will not take long.

On September 17th, 2022 at approximately 1:20pm, Public Safety Officers (PSO) responded to the 800 block of N. Westnedge Ave. for a report of a single vehicle crash.  PSO’s arrived and found a single vehicle that had crashed into a tree and a light pole.  The driver of the vehicle was found unconscious and quickly transported to an area Hospital.  The driver, 25-year-old female from Kalamazoo, was later pronounced dead.  Her name is being withheld at this time.

The driver was the lone occupant in the vehicle.  Nobody else was injured because of the crash.  No other vehicles were involved.  The crash is currently being investigated but speed is believed to be a factor.  South Westnedge is closed from West Paterson to West North St.  We ask that you avoid this area and find an alternative route.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public of Public Safety extends its condolences to the friends and family of the victim.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 337-8120 or Silent Observer at 343-2100
