PRESS RELEASE

Alligator Located in Edison

On August 23rd, 2022 a Kalamazoo Public Sergeant came across a small reptile believed to be an American alligator crawling across Lake St near Division St. Officers were able to safely secure the gator to prevent it from occupying the sewers. A local alligator sanctuary was contacted in Athens MI before turning it over to animal control. As a reminder for those in the community who choose to keep exotic pets, chapter 7 of the city ordinances covers the ownership of such animals within the city limits. Additionally, these animals take a great deal of care, time, and resources. Should you find yourself not capable of caring for any pet, there are resources available to properly resolve this.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at (269)488-8911 or Silent Observer at (269)343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com.
