ARMED ROBBERY UPDATE

August 14, 2022 by Eric Reiber

On August 13, 2022, at approximately 8:00 PM, Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to a robbery in the 2100 block of S. Burdick Street. A male suspect walked into the business while armed with a rifle. The suspect demanded money and began shooting at the clerk and a patron who was inside. The suspect then fled in a vehicle. Officers located the suspect vehicle, minutes later, heading south on S. Burdick. The suspect crashed and then fled on foot. Once the Public Safety Officer got near the suspect, he opened fire on the patrol car. The PSO gave chase while the suspect continued to fire at him. The suspect was able to get away after a thorough search of the area.

During the investigation several pieces of evidence were located. One item of interest is a black mask. Nearby surveillance footage was also captured of the suspect after he discarded his outer clothing. Please see the attached images. KDPS is asking that anybody with information regarding this case to please contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 269-337-8139, Silent Observer at (269) 343-2100 or the Kalamazoo Consolidated Dispatch Authority at 269-488-8911.
