PRESS RELEASE

Kalamazoo, MI:

On Sunday, December 26, 2021 at approximately 2:41 P.M., officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to the 900 block of Staples St. for a report of a burglary.  While officers were enroute to the residence, the homeowner advised dispatch that the suspect had just shot him and fled on foot. 

Officers arrived on scene, locating the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound inside the garage.  The victim was provided medical care and transported to a local hospital where is remains in stable condition.

Officers set up a perimeter and a K9 track was started.  Officers on perimeter observed the suspect fleeing through backyards and pursued her on foot.  The suspect was arrested and lodged on several felony charges related to the shooting and possession of a firearm.  The firearm used in this incident was recovered.
