1800 Elgin Structure Fire

Kalamazoo, Michigan: 

On Saturday, November 13th 2021, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety was dispatched to the 1800 block of Elgin regarding a possible structure fire. Public Safety Officers arrived and noted visible smoke coming from the attic vents of a 4 apartment residence.

Occupants of the building were able to self-evacuate the structure while firefighters entered the residence to investigate.   Officers were quickly able to locate the source of smoke  within the attic and extinguished the fire within minutes of arrival.   Damages to the structure were limited to a small area affecting only one apartment.

The affected residents were provided information for the Red Cross to assist with any needs.  A Kalamazoo Township Fire Marshall assisted KDPS in determining the cause of the fire.  The circumstances surrounding this fire are believed to electrical in nature.
